My horse has COPD and I am looking for a new supplement to try him on as I don't want him to become immune to it.

I have tried a long list of supplements and all have worked well. So far I got the best results with respirator boost by NAF .

What do you use for your horses ?

We had sucess with Winergy Ventilate.

However if you are happy with the one you are on, I would stick to it as long as it is working - trying supplements can be a very expensive 'trial and error'!

Very true ! Fresh air is the best option !

He spends as much time out as poss and has a stable made for him (pretty much an open shelter with a roof) but my oldie needs to come in at night so I have to bring them both in which means horse being stabled. He's on dust extracted shavings and hay is soaked and feed watered down.

He did cough several times after rolling the other day and has done since (only after rolling), hence the search for a new supplement.

Think carefully about whether you should test for PPID. Our pony had RAO so bad that we were nebulising with an Aeromask, medical pump and ventolin nebules. After a couple of months on Prascend this he didn't need to be nebulised. He still has the odd wheezy episode but it is one in 6 months instead of a constant wheeze

I use AIRWAYS + from Global Herbs
an enhayler
stable spray in the atmosphere or sprayed on a flannel hanging on tie ring
kept my mare free of wheezing etc

My horse has slight dust allergy but not COPD. I give her naf respirator boost & episodes of panting have greatly reduced. On rare days if she has a little cough I up the dose to the loading dose. Sounds like you are doing everything to manage this as best you can :)

My horse has mild COPD, mostly not evident at rest but during our hacks when we do faster stuff and up hills she can get quite puffed out. I let her walk up hills and we tend to do "intervals" if we are doing canter/gallop. Luckily she is only stabled at night and her stable is very well ventilated so she is ok in there

As much turn out as she can get
She can't have hay, it sets her off, but is fine on haylage
Improving her fitness has had a very positive impact on her breathing

Respimin- first supplement I tried for her, had a great effect but is quite expensive (for my budget)
Equine America Coff Less- pretty good
Equine America Airways Extra Strength- just started this, quite impressed
Secreta Pro- recommended by vet after a course of Ventipulmin, worked for a while but I felt not as well as the Coff Less

Don't mean to hijack but RAO and Cushing are related? Just a an read some responses on here, sorry if I've got it wrong? My daughters pony was tested for Cushing last spring when she was quite I'll. it came back as boarder line so she will never tested next time I have the vet for boosters. She has needed ventipulmin and an inhaler this summer and has steamed hay. Vet never mentioned the Cushing result in relation to the RAO If pracend helps maybe I should have her re tested and started on it? She's coughing here and there now even though she lives out and has steamed hay.

He is 10, I would be v. shocked if he had cushings.. Tell me more !

I think it's mostly down to the fact he cannot cope with dust in any form...

It may as you say be a dust allergy. However MANY young horses have PPID. Often the symptoms are well advanced before the ACTH levels show raised, unfortunately too late for some.
