Which of these options would you say was less stressful for a young pony who has had very little handling and never travelled before?

A) loaded onto trailer and short journey to ferry terminal. Unloaded from trailer and loaded onto ferry container. 6 hours on ferry (this option would not be undertaken in bad weather). Unloaded by livestock handlers and moved into leyerage livestock pen. Collected and loaded into trailer and driven 1 hour home.

B) loaded onto trailer, 1/2 hour drive , straight onto ferry in trailer, 50 mins crossing and drive straight off. 6 hour drive home (inc regular stops)

interested to hear opinions, thanks.

B travelling loose with no partition or breast/breech bars, all top doors closed, and ideally CCTV.

Can the handlers stay with the trailer on the ferry crossing? When I've gone cross channel we've had to leave the car, but that was without any livestock, I hope you could stay with the pony but worth checking.

thanks for the replies, interesting! Id thought A to start with due to a smooth sail opposed to having to brace and balance for 6 hours on the road however its a pay off against all the loading/unloading and handling.

Another vote for B I think, but your right both have advantages. Tiddlypom makes a very good point. Id not be happy to leave the trailer unattended for the crossing time I don't think.

B, I'd put a thick layer of straw on the floor as well, so pony has option of lying down if wished to!

I think A involves to much handling, which will be more stressful than just standing/lying down in a trailer.
