I have decided I need to get another turnout but am totally confused as to what to get? I have narrowed it down to Premier Equine, Caldene Exel, a Swish...

Ok I lied I haven't narrowed it down at all! I have up to £140 for the right rug, I want at least 1000d outer and 350g ish filling.

Any experiences, pros or cons gratefull recieved!

Someone on our yard got a Jumpers Horse Line Combo heavyweight last year and it is lovely - same rug as the Mark Todd but without the "big name" price tag. I want one as soon as I can afford it! There are a couple of on line sellers with them reduced to less than £80 at the moment and well worth it!

Have just bought Premier Equine Buster heavyweight rugs for both our horses, having used them before with ponies and I absolutly love them. Really warm and snuggly. Quick delivery too!

They both look great, I'm now getting more confused! Has anyone had any experience of the Caldene ones?

Hope they are better quality than Masta, its the same company that make them. Would second the Jumpers Horse Line ones, they are made by Westgate who make the Mark Todd ones and do seem to be good quality rugs. Amigo are good too as are Horseware.

Confused now - you will be!

I have premier equine t/o and it's fab. Great fit & has withstood all this wind & rain and not leaked :) it is 1680 BALLISTIC nylon outer. More importantly it has stood up to the boys at play!!

I really like the fit of Amigo, Rambo & Mark Todd but they do not withstand playful geldings. Last year i got a brand new Amigo 1200d (not ballistic) rug.....IT LASTED A DAY!! I'm not joking, it ripped from the shoulder right back to his rump!!

Would be a great rug, so long as yours doesn't like to play :)

I have also had the same problem with rhino, masta, weatherbeeta etc. No experience of Caldene though sorry.

Cant reccommend premier equine enough :)
450gram,with 200 gram in neck...Awesome fit,and actually is deep enough it comes to their knees and wraps around their bellies....the full neck comes upto the ears and dosnt slip back 15 inches when they graze like most others do,it stays up round their ears :)
This yr is the first time i have bought their rugs, bought a 200 and 450...Cant reccommend them highly enough, and the 450 gram was only £120 :)
Now i am normally a Rambo buyer, and hand on heart, for half the price i much prefer the premier equine rug!

Premier Equine dont fit my horse :(:( Hes a 16.2 mw but the wont fasten round his chest, no matter if I go a bigger size.
Rambo for me, has withstood all games including his friend giving him wedges!

i love the JHL rugs. reasonable price and they are a really good fit on my boy, come down really deep. he's in his brand new lightweight at the mo and i love it. compared to his old rugs it just drips dry in about 10 mins while he's eating ready to go out and get battered again! the other brand i hve is a fal pro. the 20g chieftain. not been worn yet, but again it is really deep on him. only prob is the cross straps are too long so i had to tie a knot in them to make them fit.

Wow thanks guys, I have just returned from feeding my boy who has enjoyed a night of water skiing in the field! I am really tempted by the premier equine but not sure which weight to go for? Should I blow the budget and get a trio or be sensible and get the 450g one?!

I have the buster trio, and find it dead useful for layering. The liners can also fit in other rugs with a liner system like rhino/rambo. Horse came in the other day, though, with a small hole in the outer rug. I'm very disappointed, cause I love the rug in every other way, and PE's customer service is brill. The horse has never damaged a rug before, though, so is hardly a rug thug.

A vote for Swish here - i got the heavyweight that was featured in the H&H rug review - 1200d 360g(i think) fill for £84.99 - got it in red which i love - not sure my horse does though - he is the brightest in the field!!

out of the two you chose I say PE have had their rugs for years

The only down side is that they get heavy when wet and you do need to reproof them at least after 2 seasons. or spray the side seams

They are quite long so I didn't buy one for new fella, got a new Rambo and the dam thing leaks thro the darts on the quarters and tail flap seam this after only 3 weeks. Now have to wait for my retailer to send it back and them check it before sending another one:(

Just bought mine the 450 premier equine with integrated neck - and I'm so glad I got it before the weather turned! He looks very snug in it, neck cover actually covers his whole neck which is a nice change. I was a rambo girl before, now I'm converted.

Delivery was excellent too. And the reflective strips make it easy for me to find him in the dark :D

Just be aware that I (and some others) have had problems with brand new Premier Equine rugs leaking even in light rain. I have been told that their customer service is very good but I never rang them up as I gave the rug away to a friend who now uses it in the stable. I had got it in their sale, so I didn't lose much money and it was less hassle than sending it back.

All my horses out door rugs are Premier Equine, we've tried various makes and the Premier Equine fit her the best, so far (touch wood) none have ripped, the newest is at least 2 years old. They don't move and wash well. The reflective strips are handy for finding your horse and for leading on the roads.
