Hi, am looking for a first pony and there's one that maybe suitable for £350. Which vet check would you go for as so expensive please?

How old is the pony? What is the pony currently doing and what do you wish it to do? Is it a private sale or a dealer sale? If private, how long has it been in the current ownership? Are they prepared to do a full vet disclosure? How experienced are you? How risk averse are you?

How long is a piece of string?? :D :)

Pony is 9 years old, would only be used for hacking, poss showing & bit of jumping. Not a dealer (seller's words) but lady does buy & sell, she's putting pony through its paces this week in different situations

I would be very cautious about buying a good first pony for £350 especially from someone who is trading as they should know the true value of a decent pony and it will be far higher than they are asking unless it has a few quirks, I guess she has only just got it in and cannot tell you much about it if she is still "putting it through it's paces" be very aware that you will be buying a pony that even the seller knows little about.

At that money a 2 stage seems the most sensible but I would ask for blood to be taken just in case the dealer, which she is if selling regularly, has given it anything, they can be held without testing with that option if anything goes wrong in the first few days.

Good first ponies are like gold dust and should fetch at least £1500 this one being only 9 would hold it's value for many years, be very careful, take someone knowledgeable with you when you go to see it, if you have no one to take you could post your area and someone may be able to help or advise on the seller, you have not posted enough yet to use the pms.

Thank you, yes someone will be coming with me. Am seeing ponies at various prices so fingers crossed I get the right one for me.

Compared to the ongoing costs of a pony, the cost of a vetting is relatively small, do you know all the costs and your commitment, not to put you off , but I have met people who really have no idea.
The lady is a dealer, she knows this, it worries me that she has lied. Make sure you keep the advert and record any terms and conditions. Google her name and phone number.

My gut feeling is that the pony is too cheap ............... but as long as you have a open mind, and tell her before you go that any pony will get a 5 stage vetting, that may cut down on the number of ponies you are shown.

Yes its the only one that she has in the size I'm looking for. There's also another being sold privately by a different owner for £400. They may not be any good, have seen a few already more expensive and they weren't any good either lol. Been looking for months so hopefully will find one that's suitable.
