i need some help please
which boots are best for winter riding and yard work?
i have some harry hall faros they are too loose around the ankles and very loose on the calf
i have had some mountain horse junior boots also found these too loose on the ankles
i do have some mountain horse junior sportive riding boots love them too bits but dont want to ruin them by slopping around in the mud!
i need the boots to come in a junior size 5 or 5.5 and be quite tight around the ankles (like the sportive) but also to have a thermal linning and be under £150
what do you think of the mountain horse active? any view good or bad
or any other suggestions? i do get very cold feet so wellys are out many thanks

Mountain Horse boots ruin my feet. So I am biased against them. However, for general riding and yard work, you can't beat Ariat Telluride boots.
They keep your feet toasty warm, are supportive, waterproof and fit snugly around the ankles. They are a lace up hiking boot style though so not sure they are what you are looking for. I wear mine with half chaps and they are on their third winter.

I have a pair of Mark Todd 'Cook' Tall Winter boots. They are fleece lined. I have small feet (3) and like the support they give me and not to tight around the calves.
They are now just going into their 3rd winter and holding up fast.
Should note they are not totally waterproof as at the front there are twon soft panels to allow for flexing ankles etc when riding/walking, but never got wet feet when out riding in the rain just when i have occassionally stepped in a big puddle ;-)

I have WW Spectrum's - feet have never been cold and they are ACTUALLY waterproof (so many aren't...) plus they are safe and designed to ride in :)

Ariat Glaciers-absolutely fantastic, very warm and suitable to ride in.
Pricey, but thoroughly worth it and last for years.
I'm sure I've seen them in the sale at the moment too.

I swear by these! I think these are my ones or near enough http://www.muckbootcompany.com/women/farm-ranch-work/Pages/ChoreHi.aspx and they keep your feet unbelievably warm. The whole of the top bit is stretchy and completely waterproof so snugs to your let - means no water can get in through the top. Plus the bottom is really tough incase ned decides your foot is a nice hoof rest ;) oh and theyre cheap! Think mine were about £45

I totally agree with this!

My feet get cold in summer and we've had snow and its bloody cold up here just now. I got a pair of these in November and LOVE them. My feet are toasty warm, and they're easy to get on/off.

I also use them for dog walking

I've had Toggi Canyon boots for the past two years. The first ones leaked after the sole came away but this was design fault apparently and Toggi kindly sent me a new pair free of charge to replace them which have been brilliant and not leaked even tho i wear the everyday for horses, dog walking and so on :)

My bromonts are my best friend - I don't think I could have horses with out them anymore not in winter nayway !

I also love my Ariat wellies - Mudbusters I think they are called, they mean the business and keep my feet warm too ! They look like industrial monsters lined up in the tack room next to my multiple pairs of leaking Joules wellies !

I have 2 different boots I wear during the winter. For when it's cold, but wet and muddy, I wear Muck Boot Brit Colts - they have a riding sole, so their better for riding compared to the Chore boots mentioned above. (I also have a pair of Chore boots). Once the ground is frozen - no more mud - I switch over to Ariat Glacier Tall boots. Have had my pair for 4 years now!

I love my muck boots which I have only had a month or so, and am raving about them! So warm, light, waterproof and a really good sole. I haven't got the longer ones you can ride in but really rate the ones I've got for yard work and dog walking.
