Right... Toto can sometimes be silly and speedy at xc, pony club, pc camp and when out in groups, he sometimes puts his head down and goes for it

And sometimes he throws in a bronc too

After loads of people on here saying that the Neue Schule Universal bit was fab, we've ordered one. He is currently in a drop noseband. Would a grackle or a drop be better with the Universal? He doesn't like flash nosebands.

a grackle wont help to stop the horse... it just stops them from crossing their jaw as an evasive action against the bit... and i personally dont think that a drop does much more than keep the horses mouth shut... if you want a noseband to help, then your looking at a combination or a kinnerton (unless of course your horse is evading by crossing his jaw, or opening his mouth)

It depends what the horse is doing to evade the contact - if he is opening his mouth, a drop, if he is crossing his jaw, a grackle. How's his schooling? It might be worth doing some work on that to get him more responsive and listening to you more - then you would have more control in situations like that

If you have him in a drop now and he is doing this - then it might be worth trying a grakle. Would deffo work on the schooling front though.

I just got a little grakle to ride our driving pony in - and she seems so far to go really well in it.
