Which would you sacrifice on a yard?

I'd go for yard 1. If you're unable to turn out in snow etc you've always got the indoor school to use to exercise or maybe turn out in so they can have a blast (if allowed). Also if prone to mud fever yard 2 could get muddy if sharing stable/shelter with other horses and you'd hae nowhere for box rest if needed?

i've sacrificed a yard with a school where i was before for renting a field with a shelter and storage. It was a hard decision, but i'm so glad i made this choice.

I was at a lovely little yard with a fab school, lovely showjumps and really nice stables and hay barn, but when i got my new horse she turned out to be a weaver in the stable, i wanted her to live out 24/7 and yard owner wouldnt allow this as she doesnt have a huge amount of grazing, which is fair enough.

Then moved her to another small yard where she could live out 24/7, but the hacking was not very good, you need to ride along a busy road and go under a subway to get to the woods and bridlepaths which isnt ideal with a horse that isnt used to traffic and a 7 year old on a pony as your hacking companion!! There was a nice enough school but no jumps, and horses get turned out 24/7 if you wish but you get no say over what horses they are turned out with and the fencing isnt great.

so now i have my lovely field, next door to yard 1, yard owner there lets me use the school and jumps for lessons and we are surrounded by amazing hacking. win win!
