I've got a right conundrum at the moment so in a final bid I implore your good advice good people of the HHO (and the bad ones if you like too).
I bring my horses (4 stallions) out of winter retirement every summer in Morocco and for 7 weeks I ride and live my dream along with my daughter. I always go to the "Haras" which is the town's riding school but last year the Yard Manager and all the kids my daughter is friends with moved to establish a new yard. They both want me to come to their yard but I cannot decide!!! Help me!
YARD 1 - The Haras - established and has new yard manager I know well. Close to main road and opposite miles of beach to ride on. Washing bay, feeding, grooms, farrier and vet. Manege and lunge area. New kids I haven't met yet. YO bent over backwards to change the rules to allow me back (it's actually run by the govt. so we really shouldn't be there but they have found a technicality and we're in).
YARD 2 - New Yard - just started up and Yard manager is an old mate. In the countryside so lots of hacking, manege, lunge area, some turnout. All the kids my daughter plays with BUT they are really naughty and often mistreat their own horses (they don't even go near me). I'm worried about security here.
Well, there you go .......... now work your magic!

Yard 1, definitely. It's near the beach, it has an accommodating YO, and you don't have worries about people mistreating horses and security worries. I don't think I would be confident with Yard 2 at all.

Gosh - that's pretty convincing. My daughter is in shock, she was sure yard 2 would be best. She want's to let you know that Yard 2 has an Ostrich if that makes any difference??

Ostriches are cool but its still yard 1 for me because much as i like them, i doubt the horses will be overly bothered about the lack of ostrich at yard 1 :)

I would go with 1, the YO sounds to be really accommodating for you.

If you're worried about security at yard 2 don't go and I don't like the sounds of mistreating horses.

Yard 1 - one hundred percent

Established yard, secure, beach to play on, vet, farrier etc all, a y/o that has bent over backwards to help you.....i would definitely stay here! I wouldnt worry too much about the kids, your children will make friends with the new kids and fingers crossed the new ones wont mistreat their horses.

You could always offer your daughters friends to come and go for a hack on your beach...or adopt an ostrich for the summer:D

Yard one.....simples.....

yard 1. sounds safer. you have to do what is best for the horses and if they are settled in yard 1 i would stay there. dont change just for the sake of the children - you have to be confident that your horses are well cared for whilst you are in Hong Kong.

Im sure i watched a film were ostritches ganged up and conerd this guy and just kept pecking him! LOL

Yard 1 seems like a better option, :)

The Ostrich decided it for me I am afraid as I can remember the height my old TB levitated to when we came round the corner on one of our regular hacking routes to find the three ostriches that had suddenly appeared in a field.

Yard one sounds great you only get 7 weeks so make sure you enjoy them and can relax with no additional worries.

Yard 1 all the way! Better security and no kids mistreating their horses...

Would you ever take one of yours to HK, or is it tricky as they're stallions? I'm taking my horse to HK in a couple of months as I'm moving out there with work, it would be fun to have another HHO member to play with ;)

That's so exciting - let me know which yard you're at (I bet I can guess) Does it sound like a buzzing honey making insect and a stream????What do you have? You know that 99% of the horses here are TB retired racehorses donated by the jockey club so anything will be a novelty. :D:D:D:D

Lol, no - it was going to take too long to get HKJC membership and they have no turnout! He'll be at International Riding Centre, just 10 mins from the buzzing place ;-)

I was in HK for 3 months in the winter and rode at Tuen Mun and Pokfulam so I know the ex-racers :-D Some are lovely, some should be enjoying a happy retirement IMHO! My boy is a PRE, funnily enough he'll be the second at IRC so he'll have a friend to chat in Spanish with :D
