Whippets

When this virus situation is over we will be looking for a rescue whippet or possibly 2. We don't want pups (we're too old) but older dogs/bitches would be nice. If anyone can point me in the direction for any needy little souls that would be grand. We are on every rescue list going but obviously now everything is understandably shut down. We are very used to the breed having had them for over 20 years. We don't want bigger dogs so no greyhounds (much as I love them). Happy to travel when the time arrives. Thanks

I don’t know anything about whippets but a friend has rescue dog from The Whippet Club?
I think they are very particular and like to rehome with provable experienced owners.

You do know you can get whippet sized greyhounds? I had one ? 21” at the shoulder, but tattooed and registered so definitely a greyhound.

I’ve been on JR whippet rescues list for over a year now and not heard a thing from them, no idea how they select who they re-home to but it ain’t me for sure! ?

There's a dedicated whippet rescue, probably more than one actually, but they are called Just whippets. If you look for them on facebook, they are very active.

Not sure if this applies to the OP but they have a blanket ban on re-homing to anyone who works at all ?

This lady does endless work rehoming whippets and sighthounds. Shes very sensible and more interested in getting dogs into the right home than your fences only being 5ft instead of 6ft. She tends to get a lot of lurchers but shes had 3 or 4 whippets over the last 6 months or so.

Thank you for the replies folks. We are on the Just Whippets. We are retired and home all the time so we were hoping that if one came up we might be lucky. Haven't seen the runningdogrescue, so will have a look and see. Yes I know one can get small greyhounds, I had one but she was a demon with small furries which we also have. There is no hurry (just as well given the situation) I'm a great one for "if it's meant to be." Please give me a whistle if you hear of anything.
