Well what I tend to have to do with sol as she is a pain in the ar$e and has completely white legs is wash them down and then SCRUB with a flexi brush until the clinging mud has come off then was her legs with citrus shampoo (don't know why it has to be citrus shampoo) but that seems to get all the grime to the top

A shower puff thing to work the shampoo in and then rinse well.

I wash two days on the trot to get them sparkling.

Cowboy Magic 'Shine in,Yellow out' works for me. Wash, then scrub with a brush. Repeat next day. The night before the show apply chalk powder and stable bandages. When you take off the next morning, bursh off the excess chalk and voila! Whiteness is yours!
This is my first post-how exciting!

wash well with soap flakes (available in supermarket/wilkos in washing powder section), rinse. Wash with tescos value shampoo, or other cheap shampoo (they are generally all the same anyway), then rinse, finally rinse with equine blue solution. Get a sweat scraper, and scrape in all the nooks and crannys to get all dirt out.

Someone at my yard uses a white powder that she buys from the chemist, puts some water in to make a paste and leaves it on under bandages - it really works will try and find out what exactly it is. x

I just always do a lot of scrubbing in and around the hairs, like one would for their own hair with a whitening shampoo. It tends to get them really clean, almost silvery. I will clean them until I see when the hair is soaking wet that the skin underneath is pink and not looking like grey pink. In my experience this keeps them clean for a lot longer as they are clean really deeply. It takes a while but it does work and it doesn't hurt their skin.

Hope this helps

wash legs in a purple shampoo, then when damp rub talcum powder into them. when dry brush legs with soft brush and excess will come off, so left with super white legs.

looks even more stunning if you get some black hoof polish ( i use supershine black) and paint their hooves so it is shiny, and dosent matter if hooves are white - my boy is a bay with 3 white feet and socks, and he looks fantastic with 4 shiney black hooves and sparkly white socks!

Clean up from Horse Health Wessex or their Brite Whites is very good also.
The clean up is medicated also, snoopy has 4 white legs and they were filthy at the weekend, used clean up and they were positively sparkling!!

Firstly, give them a good wash (I recommend using cheap baby shampoo, Supreme shampoo, or IV Horse equine shampoo) and whilst your horse's legs are still wet apply some chalk powder (you can buy it in a tub from most tack shops). Then bandage your horse's legs for the night, and the following morning simply brush off the chalk powder and voila - your horse will have sparkling white legs!

It's a cr*p photo as Ali wouldn't stand still for me whilst my Father was trying to take a decent photo of us, but it shows you how white I managed to get Ali's legs!

If you are feeling rich the supreme show ring products Leg and body whitener powder is brilliant, you only need to make up a little bit, paint it on the night before, bandage over the top and then brush out in the morning. They also do a blue rinse, only 1/4 teaspoon in a bucket of water. (also brilliant if you have a black horse!) I am old enough to remember blue bagging my grey ponies tail before pony club rallies when I was really young, the rinse has the same effect. The whiteners are expensive to buy in the 1st place but last for ages.
