a friends pony has white line diease in all 4 feet and no foot growth at all the feet a just falling off nothing seems to be working to improve the problem..it is gven stuff in its feet and a dressing from the vets..has anyone come across this bfore or have ideas

we think it was set off last year by laminitis last year before he came to us he is sound but has had all shoes removed and off work until he improves with his feet but in the last year we have had no foot growth at all dispite all efforts to improve diet and give as much good grass as we can without risking another bout of lammi..he really is staring the end of his days in the eye as this is as far as the vets seem to think he can go

What has the farrier done and what has been applied to the hooves? The hooves need to be kept fairly dry and the walls pared back to expose the affected area to the air. There are a variety of products that can be applied, iodine being the best and very cheap. (Apply to the affected area, not the whole hoof)

the farrier has been great through out the last year with this pony but its even beyond him a bit at the moment the hooves didnt really need trimming back as such as a third or more has just broken up and fallen off every where so they have been tidyed and cut back the vets have made up a fairly toxic iodine based hoof dressing which stinks the whole place down and stings a bit if you splash it on your skin!
None of it helps as and with no hoof growth its a nasty cycle..ive seen seedy toe before years ago in a riding school pony but this has got us..all blood work on the horse is clear
