Anyone know much about it?
Just speculating really... horse has a slightly rotated pedal bone in the right hoof. Was lame for quite a while, vet suspected abscesses (which there was one), fractured pedal bone (negative), but had never suspected laminitis as there were no other signs (and lameness only in one hoof), so I was wondering if it could be white line disease?
Horse is currently on box rest (and going bonkers), with heart bar shoes and a hoof pad on the one hoof. Going back to have HB shoes refitted in 2 weeks time.

My pony had white lines disease as a three year old, came in lame, no heat, swellings anything, vet came out and diagnosed white lines disease and told me to get shoes on her pronto. She went sound after days of tubbing in salt water and having shoes fitted. Not had it again although we have had laminitus a few years later. My farrier however now laughs when I tell him shes had it in the past, dont really know what hes trying to say like !

my horse was dog lame on one leg and nothing seemed to help much. has had laminitis in the past but vet didnt think it was that this time.
Anyway x rays showed rotated pedal bone and he had HB shoes put on - seems to be pretty much sound with the shoes on now? There was an abcess present, but the lameness didnt improve when that cleared up.

White line disease rarely causes lameness, unless it's in the much later stages where it invades upwards through the foot, causing the hoof wall and laminae to seperate, and this will result in collapse of the pedal bone.

When my horse had it, I was advised to have his shoes removed, and to soak his feet (standing with hoof in bucket type of soak) in a solution of 50/50 Milton sterilizing fluid and water, for 10 minutes, twice a week. He was completely free of WLD within three weeks, and it also cured any thrush he had as well. Obviously it won't work if your horse is shod as the Milton solution won't be able to work it's way up through the hoof wall.....
