i have just today seen a white line at the top of my colts hoofs. now i don't know what it is really 9i've nver seen it bofore) it's like a quiet thick, faint line.
Has anyone encounter this before and is it something i should be worried about?

Was it under the little fringe of hair that covers the very top of the hoof? Any chance of a photo?

i took a picture today
Not clear though (he wouldn't stop moving!)
But you can faintly see the white line at the top of his hoof (it's darker than this though up close)

Its just the periople which is the skin which joins the hoof and the skin, it allows a flexible join between to two, also known as the coronary band..

Carefully with it because it will bleed if you pull at it...

Its perfectly normal and he will have one on all of his hooves.

Yep, what I was expecting and, as loobie-lou says, perfectly normal

Hey!

don't feel silly....

I'd always known it was normal but i didnt know it was the Periople until i started working for farrier.

Dont ever feel silly for asking questions...

Feel silly when you dont ask a questions and it all goes pear shaped!
