I checked my ponies this evening to find that one had got the straps of his fly rug neck off and had it around his head. There is a small white squiggle on his eyeball where its rubbed, no 'centre' to the mark and it looks superficial. Pony a bit jumpy from the experience but seems to be able to see just fine

Should i be worried and will it heal of its own accord?

I would get the vet to have a look tomorrow, any damage to the surface could quickly become serious and antibiotic eye drops now could prevent it becoming a problem.

Thanks. I have some unopened antibiotic drops in my fridge that are in date and recommended by the vet for my chickens - could i use those do you think?

I am guessing the vet would only charge me £70 plus the eye drops anyway...

If you are not sure what you are dealing with do not self medicate, get the vet out, you could do more harm than good. Giving 'Chicken medicine' to your horse is not be a good idea.

The drops are human ones often used on horses but i get your point

Ive spent over £200 on vets visits in the last five days so im not adverse to calling a vet out i just dont want to pay £70 plus meds if what is already in my fridge will be prescribed!

I will give the vef a call this morning, if they feel a visit is necessary then so be it...
