White reflection in photograph, horses eye

I am aware that some eye conditions are only visable from taking a photo and the eye is reflecting back as white! I am not really very knowledgable with equine eye conditions, so my question is if you saw an advert and in all 3 photos the horse was reflecting back at you would you be really concerned, if so why? xx

I'd probably think "Hmm, that's odd" and not give it another thought. OTOH, if I were seriously thinking about buying the horse I might casually mention it in passing, and would expect obvious eye problems to be picked up in the vetting.

It may be nothing to worry about - horses have a layer of tissue called the tapetum at the back of the eye which reflects light back and is important to help them see better in the dark - if the photos were taken with flash this often bounces off the tapetum and makes the eye appear white...like the mare and foal in this photo

are all photos taken from the same side?
If there was the same shine from both sides i'd be more confident it was just a trick of the light/camera etc... but if one side kept shining back and the other didn't i'd be more worried...

I was assuming DD knew about eye-shine, and saw something odd in the photos. DD, could you post a link to them so we can all see?

I do recall a woman finding out she had cancer after a White dot being seen in her eye from a photograph.

White or green reflection is normal. Red reflection shows lack of pigment, my horse shows red but vet said it just means he can't see as well in the dark.

Could be a sign of cataract or scaring
