White specs on legs?

Hi all. I have noticed that my mare has these white/dandruffy bits in her hair or her legs. She is not stamping and doesn’t itch at them, they are not causing any issues. Any idea if it’s anything to worry aboutIMG_8644.jpeg
 
Like tiny grains of rice? Probably bot eggs. Scrape them off or she may bite them off her legs and they will get into her system and attach to the stomach wall like a slug!

Please do not wash the legs with hibiscrub. Are the stuck to the hairs almost and slightly greasy looking/feeling?

Mallenders? Is she hairy? It’s common in horses with feathers, my Welsh D has it on her front legs. If they have it on back legs it’s called Sallenders. Mine has it very mildly thankfully, there is a great facebook page on it, https://www.facebook.com/share/g/1ATwHiSfES/?mibextid=wwXIfr

May not be that but white scurfy bits on the backs of knees are often Mallenders, can’t really tell from your photos x

It looks like a very, very mild version of that to me too, so nothing really to worry about. Theres lots of topical treatments that will help
 
All mine get scurfy legs at coat change time - I see it as out with the old! I just brush/rub them out, more come off after a wash, then put a light moisturiser on like Skin So Soft. Don’t see them again until next coat change.
 
Anicura spray or gel will help. Defo not bots just scurfy where there's no air getting in. You could clip the legs until it clears.
 
You could try washing with an emollient wash and see if that helps if it's due to dry skin. Or with a shampoo that's specifically to remove scurf, I like the Dermoline Insect Shampoo, and I've also had success using human Head & Shoulders shampoo.
Just definitely don't use hibiscrub, it's incredibly drying. Great for the initial cleaning of a fresh wound, but otherwise there's better alternatives.

Yep lots of people use head and shoulders for Mallenders, it’s really good for it x
