White spots on mare's teats

Hi i have a broodmare that has had several foals and today while i was washing her tail i noticed that there are white spots on her teats just looks like someone has dipped them in sugar/salt. She was scanned not in foal for 2009. What could this be? Any ideas? Thanks

I've known mares that were scanned not in foal actually be in foal, it all depends on when she was scanned, as it can be quite easy to miss very early on. Is she displaying other signs such as enlarging abdomen (as she's not a maiden this should become noticeable quite early on). Do you have any photos of the teats/udder? Are they swollen?
