What do you guys think about booting? My cob used to be bootless for everything, but my youngster is booted all the time (probibly over booted, im a bit over protective) He has wraps for turning out in, flatwork wraps by equilibrium that go under the fetlock in front, normal schooling wraps by equilibrium behind for flatwork, and plastic shell trizone tendon boots, fetlock boots and over reachers for jumping.
What do you do with yours?
Im of the opinion no boots or all boots i think, mine wears them because he is fine, and tbh im on the heavier side to ride him (but not too big) and he can be clumbsy so i like him to be protected.

brushing boots for lunging, schooling, hacking and a knee boots for roadwork :) I don't jump yet but will do tendon, fetlock and or boots.

neurotic here too :)

Knee boots and over reach boots for hacking. Sports medicine boots amd o/r for schooling/jumping. Nothing for turning out apart from the first day and she ate them so not much point in that for mine!

Just brushing boots all round for lunging and schooling. Don't tend to for hacking unless its going to be a "fun" one!
Never turn out in boots.

Over reach boots & fetlock ring for turnout.
Hacking & jumping is front brushing boots & over reach boots
Schooling just over reach boots

For hacking in walk and trot and general schooling, both of mine (one riding horse, one driving pony) wear knee boots (and my TB wears hoof boots if they count). Wouldnt take either of mine on the roads without knee boots on, thats the only thing i insist on.

For faster more intensive work like a lot of cantering, galloping, jumping he wears tendon boots incase he stumbles and steps on himself. No back boots though as he doesnt brush.

For my 'long' hacks, which include very rocky unsteady terrain, going up and down very steep banks and through long grass, and jumping the occasional wall etc, i usually put him some wraps on too. Not for support as such, but he has had a few scrapes when picking his way through the rocky bits.

For competitions, he wears tendon and brushing boots as he gets a little excited and sometimes when he throws a temper, he will clobber himself.

Tendon & over reach boots for real jumping, not the messing about we do now. When she's been in overnight & the grounds frozen solid, 23yr old wears smbs for the first 10mins as she rolls then hoons round. Same if grounds hard & I'm expecting lots of galloping round, eg a new horse, & only cos she had severe ligament damage a few years ago. Otherwise just for lunging, & not always then.

I'm a booter too! Lol!
Don't turn out in boots, but will put brushing boots and over reach for hacking and light schooling, or ill bandage if its going to be a bit more intense schooling. And will boot for jumping too :)

I was starting to think i was getting cotton wool syndrome!! I only turn out in boots because he hoons round like a looney non stop and gets picked on so im not taking any chances if i can help it! they are always clean and dry though :)

I never used to put anything on my cobby, because i thought she was a tank and invincible.

Rescently shes been coming back into heavier work amd two weeks ago went lame on her right hind.

shes never been lame in the 8 years ive owned her, but since then ive come to terms with the fact she may look like she could withstand the force of an oncoming 18 wheeler, but shes actually my delicate little flower.

So now shes in front brushing boots and SMB behind :)

Flatwork- Stretch and Flex boots on fronts.
SJ- brushing boots (training) or tendon boots if she isn't being as careful on fronts.
XC- brushing boots and over reach boots on fronts. She doesn't need the over reach, but would rather be safe than sorry when galloping.

Doesn't get turned out in anything, a knock or two can help toughen their legs up a bit, and would rather not constrict the circulation, or risk mud fever with the wet/damp and mud getting between boot and leg.

She doesn't like wearing boots on the hind either, and the last time she did, one slipped resulting in a rather large couple of bucks and getting ditched in a field

I turn out in Equilibrium close contact chaps and lunge/ride in Stretch and Flex wraps and overreach boots. Pony is clumsy and I'm paranoid.

Overreach boots for turnout in the vague hope it will stop him pulling his shoes off by standing on his own feet. Nothing else, I'm also in the "toughen their legs up" camp.

Mine has no boots, the only time ive booted is when she's goe XC as she does sometimes forget to look where shes putting her feet/ legs! I'd rather not boot if i don't have to, they are more hassle and can also do more damage than good.

My mare lives in her O/R boots, she had a very bad o/r cut last winter which resulted in 6 weeks box rest and an absess, so she now lives in OR boots to prevent that from happening again.
flatwork she wears a full set of brushing boots
for sj she wears a set of tendon and fetlock boots, the plastic coated, fitted type.
for hacking is the same as for jumping
and for xc she wears sports medicine wraps on the front and carbon eventing boots on the back.
Yes i'm paranoid, simply as IF one day she over-reaches, brushes or whatever, she will not hurt herself, and i won't have the think about the what if's. I'd much rather buy a new pair of boots than my horse getting hurt :)

You should never boot your horse, it's wrong and you might get one back.

Lol :D

My 17yo cob has never had a boot on in the 8 years I've had her. My 5yo TB wears brushing boots all round for lunging and I will usually put front brushing boots on for jumping but I'm not religious about it. I'm in the toughen them up camp too.

Used to use brushing all round and ors for all riding and lunging. Now his backs are off I only bother with front brushing unless we are hacking on roads in which case we have hi viz brushing boots all round because I find they stay put better than the high viz leg bands

I use OR in the field on my connie as he can overreach, and bandages/brushing boots for general riding, tendon boots for jumping.
My welsh a has back brushing boots on for inhand work as he has a hell of a spin in him, and has come very very close to injuring himself behind, so better safe than sorry.

I booted my cob in brushing boots all round during the backing process and continued to do so. When i bring her back into work she will be booted again and will use O/R boots when she starts jumping next year :)

I use over reach boots for all ridden work (apart from showing and dressage competitions). Full knee brushing boots to hack and normal brushing boots for schooling/lunging.

My mare never had them on until she tore her tendon. After that I had to wrap her in cotton wool as going lame on her good leg would almost certainly have damaged the bad one so I put boots on in front to minimise the risk of even a tiny injury. She was fine behind so didn't have anything.

New boy has only been here a month and is very accident prone already, so he has them on all round. He moves very close front and back and has already marked his hind boots. Better the boots than him as he's forever bleeding due to one cut or another! Daft beast. I wouldn't if he moved better.

Pony has fronts on as she couldn't walk in a straight line if I glued her to a ruler, but she moves wide behind so is fine.
