Hyperthetical question:

On a small private yard, with one full time groom in charge, and two part timers, (along with two other nice workmen who use it) who cleans the loo? All the stuff you need to do it is there, everyone keeps it tidy (we're not talking baked on poo up the sides or anything gross!), and everyone is happy to chuck a bit of bleach down if necessary. The washing machine is only round the corner for the towel to go in too.

Is it

a) everyone should do it, take turns as it were

b) nobody should do it

c) you should do it if asked to by the 'senior' member of staff as it hasn't been done in ages and it is your turn, and you've been asked several times specifically but still haven't bothered

d) the groom in charge should do it or organise it to be done

e) none of the above

f) .....your answer is:

JUST WONDERING!

Thanks guys

I would do my bit, so i would say take it in turns. Used to annoy me at my old yard where only certain people would bother buying loo roll. Yet everyone was happy to use it! I mean how much is loo roll? 99p hardly break the bank. Rant over

ETA mine was a DIY yard so prob different in terms of who does what.

Wildwest - I'd agree with that if the owner of the yard was on the yard on a daily basis, using the loo, and working there, but if someone has been employed to take on sole charge, be responsible for everything, shouldn't they ultimately be responsible for the general 'housework' (for want of a better word? eg cleaning around the sink where everyone makes tea, has their lunch, and emptying the yard bin at the end of the day? I'm not saying they should be a skivvy for everyone else on the yard, but surely everyone should take a turn?

Loo roll provided by boss, and its Charmin! Lush!

We've had quite a debate about this today (friends and I) and believe it or not one girl knew someone who ripped up feed sacks to use instead of buying loo roll!

On a small yard, no paid help. Rubbish, cleaning including loo, sweeping feed store is only done by the over 50's and even if the rubbish bag is left in full view, ready to go is still ignored by the younger liveries. Too depressing.

its not a grooms job

I disagree - it depends on the grooms role. Whoever has overall responsibility for running the yard on a day to day basis needs to be on top of every aspect. There are H & S issues to be considered, & if the yard owner is employing someone to take charge then the loo is included. How the head groom choses to organise it is up to them.
As a yard owner I certainly don't expect to have to call in daily to see if the loo has been cleaned.
It takes two mins to swish a bit of bleach round & change the hand towel. I really can't understand why people are so precious about basic tasks.
