Hi

I havent been on here for a long time to Hello again! Everyone up here (Aberdeenshire) keeps saying its going to be a bad winter but who decides its going to be? We have a lot of Rowan berries on the tree which is meant to be a 'SIGN' of a bad winter. But do the berries cme out in force due to last winter being bad or because they know what is coming?!!

Hope some can answer that! I need a idea of how many rugs extra i need!! haha

No idea but all of my horses bar one is moulting. This is very early for them so that's what is making me think its going to be a bad winter.

Mine already have winter coats in!!! My pony who stays naked over the winter is very fluffy. My horse is having a light sheet on of a night!

The weatherman can't get tomorrow right, so god knows what chance they have of getting the winter right! Could I be a little cynical and wonder if during a slower sales period if it is handy to worry people about a hard winter so they get the coats, rugs, hay and feed in?

HHO decides, didn't you know! It also decides whether there will be hay shortages etc.

I agree with the comments that nobody knows. Whatever is predicted, it does the opposite!

My pony that normally has a thick winter coat by this point, has very little coming through.
I've been hearing that about the berries up here as well, though.

There is only one sure thing about winter, and that's that it will happen whatever :D

What is a bad winter is also debatable, my idea of bad is rain, wind and mud, SAD and achey joints (and that's me) -unbearable. I ran away from it all, now I know what winter is going to bring and I love it:D

ENFYS maybe i need to move near you! I would prefer constant snow until spring. I can cope better and the horses seem happier in snow and so do my fields!!

Lol, Gleek your near me, and i have to say i have resigned myself to the fact that from now on it will probably be terrible!! At least if you expect the worse, you wont be too sad when it happens!!:o
However my usually 'very fluffy for this time of year native' that lives out, still has her summer coat and isnt moulting yet :D so who knows, anyway after last winter how could it be worse Lol!! :D
