Who do you insure your dog with?

Herman is insured with NFU - we have the house, cars, horse, cats, contents etcetc insurance with them so we added him to the cats for pet insurance. Boyfriends mum used to work for the local office and all their farm equipment/livestock/farmy things is also insured through them so we know them fairly well and if we ever see them out and about they ask after the pets/horse/family etc so feels like a local company.

*touchwood* Have never had to claim for anything. I think it costs £30 a month for the pet insurance (2 x indoor cats, 1 x silly dog) and I will check my policy tonight (if I can find it) for what that includes if you want? Oh and it gets cheaper every year, thanks to the whole mutual benefits thing. But like I say, have never had to claim. A friend has with one of her horses and they've upped the insurance for BOTH (although she did claim nearly £10k off them).

We insure the entire farm with NFu, all vehicles - tractors, cars, JCB, trailers, buildings, livestock, horses, other machinery, the farmhouse, contents, life insurance, pension....you name it we insure with them at many thousands of pounds per year.

Our working dog is insured with them too. However, they couldn't come anywhere near the price I got from Animal Friends to insure Harvey and it was coming from my pocket directly, I went with them.

Ours are both with Direct line for about £30 a month in total - that covers vets fees up to 6k and they just paid out £2k for a blackthorn injury with no questions at all (though it did take 6weeks)

Petplan - I know there are plenty of people out there that hate petplan, and they aren't the cheapest. But I've had all my animals (horses, cats, dogs etc) insured with them for donkeys years and have never ever had a problem with them, or with any claims I have had to make.

thanks guys - I did try NFU but my local office won't ensure Archie if I don't have my home insurance with them.....they've always been tip top with my horse insurance and I've claimed thousands of pounds off them when I had two stupid tb's.....I think I'll go to the national call centre and ask.

MM do you mind checking? Sains will insure him for £14 and that includes £7500 vets fees which isn't just for the 12 months you're insured with them.......

Petplan for everything. With all Dex and Mattys problems over the last few years we have put in numerous claims. They have paid every single one promptly and with no quibbles at all.
Our first rotty had arthritis and was on Metacam for many years, they paid for all of her medication right up until she died.
They are excellent.

Thanks guys went with Posies suggestion as I needed to do him today before I have him chopped.....! Last time I didn't wait the 14 days Jack was really ill and cost me another £500 because he caught blooming ecoli at the surgery!
