The saddler!!!
My saddler who is trained in fitting Bates and Wintec saddles only and who is also a qualified McTimmony person came out last night and I actually felt quite upset that the 'so called' physio that I took Archie to see last week is not quite as qualified as he is making out!!!!
Needless to say, my saddle IS NOT 3 inches too long and there is nothing wrong with it at all. Ok, it needed a slight adjustment to the front, which is easily done with this kind of saddle, but I DONT need a new one at all.
Im actually pretty furious at the other Man and will be stopping the cheque I wrote him untill he can prove his qaulifications. Its actually quite possible that he has done more harm than good to my horse.
On his report, he said that my horse is in Extreme pain!!! If that were true, he would have told me. For those of you who know Arch will understand!!

Anywho, rant over now!

Rant away. I could also rant about physios. I once had 3 physios look at Lucy in the same day. (they just happend to be at the yard looking at other horses) The first one said her hips where out, the second one said her poll was out and the third one (the only one i knew and trusted) said there was nothing wrong with Lucy at all and the others prob just wanted me to pay for them to do work on her. I was always sceptical about physios but now i don't trust them at all.
Oh and all three claimed to be qualified

I probably should have clicked when he didnt even see him Walk or trot up. I did wonder when he realined Archies hips on BOTH sides though!! But you tend to put your trust in these people! I wont be doing that again thats for sure.

when i use my physio she gets permission form my vets. she is qualified.
dont all physios get permission to treat animals first?

That's why I always tell people to call their vet and get their recommendation on who to use.... (aswell as it being the law for them to have your vets permissions, if you ever wanted to claim you have to go through your vet anyway)

There are too many total crooks on here. There's another thread on this forum and someone has recommended a back person that I know is totally unqualified and the vets around there hate people using.

See this man was recommended to me by my trainer, who is very well known, respected and trusted, so thats why I went with him.
He travels from Somerset and does loads all in one go. He never asked me if my vet had given permission though and when my saddller came out last night (who DOES get permission from my vet) she couldnt believe what this man had done.

Legaly yes they should. But your farrior should also get permission to do anything other than put normal shoes on your horse. But no one takes any notice of that!
Sadly you live and lurn. Luckly i didn't let the first two physios touch Lucy i just wanted to see what they thought. Hope not to much harm has been done to your horse Morrigan_Lady.

Sorry to hear that, and you are right to stop the cheque. I've only ever used two physios in my life for my old girl and they were both brilliant and helped her a lot. Having said that, both were recommended by my vet for specific problems.

Good point. Yes they are spose to get permission from your vet. He didnt even ask me.

That would raise my suspicion straight away.

However thankfully you found out before any damage was done, is he advertising as having more qualifications than he really has?

I'd be extremely mad as well.

Deary me, that's no good!

If they are ACPAT-registered physios, they should only ever treat with a vets referral (I looked into training as a physio a few years ago).

Sounds like yours may not be quite so official! Unfortunately there's nothing to prevent anyone calling themseves an animal physio without proper training as the term is not protected by law :(

as spudlet says, there is sadly nothing to stop people from practiing as a physio, back person, whatever, without ANY formal qualifications. You can even get insurance to do so!

I think it happens a lot. As a young teenager before I knew better we would have "the back lady" out to do our horses - god knows fi she was qualified, we didn't even know if she was chiro, physio, osteo or wacko! Thankfully ours appeared to do well under her.

BUT they can't call themselves chartered without the proper training and ACPAT registration - so those are the ones to go for IMO:)

I don't ask permission from my vet to get mine done - mainly because most of the time there's nothing really wrong - its just a check up tbh. But the chiro I use is well known and respected in the area - I don't know anybody who can say a bad word about him - which is rare in the horse world!! :)
