I do. Mine get some feed all year. I tend to cut out the sugar beet and Alfa but they all get a little breakfast and tea if they are in either days (for the fatties) or in at night (those that compete). If they are out 24/7 (broodmare or not in work) then they get just one feed a day

I suppose it depends whether they're out 247 - if you have good grass (which we used to have) my American SB just had hay in the field - no hard feed int he summer.

Ty is in every night so always has hard feed which is upped in the winter.....

The ex-racers (Banjo & co) get hard feed all year round, because as you know they drop condition so flipping fast! The little one could probably exist on thin air in the summer so he doesn't get hard feed in the summer.

All of mine do, apart from Doodles the donk and Paolino the pony. My 9 are all oldies and they get ad lib hay, 1 kilo of mix, unmolassed sugar beet and boiled barley and linseed ( twice a week ) in the winter. In the summer the hay is cut down depending on the quantity of the grass (by August its about zero) and they still get their mix and sugar beet. My vet keeps on about how fat they are

Doodles and Paolino get hay in the winter and graze whats left after the horses have been moved to a different field in the summer-no hay. Mairi

Quite a comment coming from one of the most poorly written posts EVER!

Some do, some dont.
With the older horses, they are either summer horses or winter horses. So if they are summer horses then are in training getting fed in the summer, and out 24/7 getting fed in the winter. The winter horses are in getting fed in the winter, but have only grass in the summer.
The ponies get fed in summer, when they go onto restricted grazing - plus they come in at daytime because Max gets sunburnt. In winter they are on 10 acres with no feed.
The youngsters and broodmares get hard feed all year round.

I feed depending on the horse, new boy will be fed all year round because there is so much of him and he needs it.
Other boy gets a small token feed every day so he isnt left out, but doesnt really need anything, I just like to give him a bit so I can put his garlic and oil in.

My old native only got a handful of chaff in winter, nothing in summer because she got fat on fresh air anyway!

I feed both of mine all year around because of the amount of work they both do (or will do eventually in Hannah's case). Grace needs as much feed as she can get otherwise she turns into hatrack pony, and Hannah loses condition in her coat quite easily if she is not fed during the summer and is in full work. She will be fed this summer too as she will be feeding Hanlette (that is if it arrives before then

) and is only out during the day.

I Feed all year, hard feed is reduced depending on work load or grass but he still gets something with suppliments etc as well as lots of hay when in. He competes all year so needs to keep his strength up

I feed all year round and have always done, because everyone else in the yard gets fed and they're all fed together to keep routine (it's a small yard). So even if it's only half a scoop of chaff then yes.
