Who else has a grumpy mare at the moment?

I do believe my mare is in season for the first time this spring as she is horrible at the moment!

Anyone else suffering? I hate this time of year!!
 
Yes she is more grumpy than usual :rolleyes: Keep calm, carry on and dont get bitten or kicked is the rule of the day :)

Will never have a mare again thats for sure.
 
Yes - my grey's being a right grumpy-bum. Flipping pony was wet, shivering and both of her mates were caught, but she was still giving me the run around as she really didn't want to come in, she pulled awful faces and waved her legs about when I put her rug on. Sod. :p

My gelding is even grumpier than the grey ATM and chestnut mare is sweet as usual.
 
I have two but only because they have just met and it's handbags at dawn or ears back as they call it.:) Hopefully The new lady won't be marish as my other one is quite good that way just a tad bargy if you let her get away with it - which I don't.
 
I love my mare and she is usually a poppet but at this time of year she seems to struggle to contain herself a bit! First season of the spring is always the worst isn't it?

At least we aren't suffering alone. Mine actually sounds slightly less grumpy than others so perhaps I should think myself lucky:p
 
my 28 yr old mare is being a right madam, i put it down to her becoming a grumpy old lady now!

she's got really kicky, shes always warned horses off with her back feet but never actually kicked them for no reason! the other day, she shoed the boy off the hay, he moved out of the way and stood next to me as I was poo picking! next second she spun around booted out, only missing me because I jumped out of the way, and got the boy right in the leg!

she then stood there the other morning and bit him for no reason! she keeps trying to kick out, so steering clear of her back end for the mo!

oh and she was also stamping her back feet a lot last week!
 
Yes mine is a grumpy bum and very hungry! Forgetting her manners etc. She's not being tarty though, she's on Agnus castus so not sure if it is somehow suppressing tarty behaviour but not the grumps, don't think I'll bother if that is the case!

tehe. Mine isn't on anything and she is grumpy AND tarty! :D I pity any boy that tries it on though. She is scary at the moment!
 
My mares full of herself and all manners are out the window, Squealing for england and the minute I dare to take her away from field companions to bring her in all hell brakes loose! :rolleyes:
 
Yup, my mares a bigger grump than normal too. First and last of the season are always the worst. I figured it was coming soon so cut all long hairs off round her teats etc last week. learned the hard way that this'll stop her kicking n being crabby whilst doing her leg straps for the first cycle. she gets soooo sensitive ;~ p
 
Yep mine actually had a fight with her best mate the other day (they are always together and look out for each other when it kicks off in the rest of the herd of 13 mares) however they had a pop at each other the day before yesterday. When I groomed her last night I found some bite marks as well so guessing they are all at it!
It's a nightmare on our yard as we have a herd of 13 mares together in 2 massive open fields and they all have female owners that are mostly synced with their horses 'cycle' so it's usually a few days random arguments and tears :/
 
Aww, mine is all slow and 'tearful'. She's gone very clingy and needs to be physically touching me most of time and when I leave she just stands there looking really sad. I even saw her touching noses with baby cob today, cobby looked most suprised as she usually either ignores her or tells her off :rolleyes:
 
Mine is a floozy with boys, and some girls, and 9 times out of 10 moody. She has her lovely days though and no matter what comments people make about her mood i adore her and she's my grumpy girl, you need to spend time with her to see her other nice side.
 
Some of your mares sound just like my teenage daughter! Yep our two girls are in season. One is horny, the other miserable. Not sure which one I prefer!
 
Mine hasn't come into season just yet, but I think it is close! She is the bottom of the heard and normally doesn't go for any of the others but is very clingy with me at the moment and it is meaning if any of the others get any attention from me (if putting a head collar on is attention?) then she has to stand right by me, ears flat back, teeth bared warning them off!! Silly moo...
 
I have my mare on grass livery as I turned her away for the winter. I received a phone call to ask me to remove her as she literally went to kill the poor woman in the field... apparently she had her cowering in a hedge as she went full pelt, hooves out to get her..

She isn't the most pleasant of horses and was a complete cow last week to me - turning to double barrel me if I literally went across the field without a bucket of food to check on her. She does og beyond marey behaviour though. I do think at the moment it is hormones, REALLY, REALLY bad hormones!! She seems to have got worse than normal since being out with a small herd of mare.

I've been told in all seriousness by the lady that she needs to be PTS.. it doesnt help that I dont think my girly has taken to this lady and she definitely picks and chooses her friends.

(I WON'T be PTS - she'll come home again and which means the only person she can kill is me :eek: )
 
i thought it was only my mare!
normally shes so sweet and wouldnt hurt a fly, but the past 5 days shes been trying to bite ANYTHING that crosses her path! got my mums bum on friday :/......not a happy mummy :)
really hoping it will clear soon

can anyone sugest a cheap/quick acting supplement that may help? cant afford loads but i can tell the next few seasons are going to be hell :(

I have a grumpy gelding at the moment - he usually gets on so well with my colt and are happy enough to munch from the same manger, have the odd gentle play, this morning my gelding really, really went for my colt. Luckily they both wear boots and were fully rugged so hopefully helped save any injuries (touch wood this evening when I go to put them to bed I dont find any swellings/heat!!)
 
She's super, super grumpy at the mo but definately not in season - she reckons she's got a little alien growing inside her, I know it's a little foal :D:D:D
 
Mine had swollen teats which extended under her belly - first and last seasons often result in some swelling, poor love. All she wants is a hug and a smooch to make her feel better, she doesn't like me faffing around when she's hormonal, quiet gentle movements soothe her and she still likes to get out for a ride

Of course you can :) I think the weather is peeing them all off something wicked as well. There should be grass and sun on their backs by now and all they get is more snow!

You could try just bog standard MagOx. Cheaper than any of the actual calmers and that is what is in them all anyway. It will only work though if she is actually short of magnesium. If not it won't do a damn thing.
 
Nope not at all she is as happy and loving as always and she's a chestnut TB lol.

Really enjoying her work too and going well with it. Fortunately no grumpy mare at the moment
 
Nope Tess is fine at the moment but when she is in season all that happens is she turns into a slug to be ridden and yells to the boys over the fence who she has been ignoring since they moved it :rolleyes:
