Who else has had to abandon aims and plans this winter?

me :( the first bout of snow cancelled my dressage competition- which was rearranged for saturday- and it decided to snow
i have missed 3 lessons, havnt ridden for 3 and a bit weeks- and ponies have been mostly stuck on the yard- little matrix has stiffened up, and i really wish it would all just go away!

I've well and truely given up now. I have 5 horses and they had all been stuck in thier stables since last Thurs.

I planned to do BSJA with my 6 year old this winter BN and Disc, ready for his next season Be in 2011. As the weather has been so awful he has had a hobday and tieback he needed so is on 5 weeks box rest now which finishes the 2nd week in Jan, then he will be scoped again and resume work...thank god.

My rather sharp 5 year old was meant to spend the winter doing lessons and clinics to get him settled, with some BSJA and DR, aiming at BE next year. He has currently had 2 hacks in the last 12 days...

My 4 year old was meant to hunt all winter with a bit of DR and lessons and clinics. Been hunting once. Hacked once in 12 days...

Trust me to have a bunch of babies that need work in this weather. I can't even turn them out, the yard is tretcherous :(

Hoping for a mass thaw before Fri when i finish work till the 4th Jan :)

My plan was to simply get to know my horse and ride him! And take him to a couple of drag hunts as well.

So I have given up on the riding part, and just watching him play and getting to know his personality!
Ah well, after Christmas hopefully we can go xc schooling and little dressage/sj comps :)

The break will have done no harm to him, the only downside is my waistline is rapidly expanding!

My plans are on hold.

We were just getting the dressage going really nicely, which took almost a year and then we had to stop.
We were getting the jumping really nice, with plans to get out and do some BS(JA) then had to stop.
We had planned to go hunting over the winter - that looks like it won't happen.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr :mad::(

I had a new horse about a month ago & havnt even ridden him yet, the grounds be so icy & hard it hasnt been safe to take him out, so frustrating!!

Same here! I have mine on trial with view to buy and this weather has made riding impossible :( If I cope over the next few months with him then everything else will be a breeze!

I can ride, but the surface isn't great so only do 20mins or so, and can't really try to build on our flatwork as don't want to do anything too strenuous on it. Can't have a dressage lesson for god knows how long, as instructor moving (locally) but new yard doesn't have a school yet. Can't jump in school at home as yard policy, so I've been trying to get lessons but can't have many as so expensive. It's a bit gutting really as I really wanted to crack our showjumping this winter but it might be a little tricky!! Got a jumping comp (maybe) on the 28th but ideally wanted a lesson before, but hey ho! I'll just have to roll up and pull what I can out of the bag :) xx

I didnt really make much plans for this winter as from last year I wasnt expecting it to be great. Plus dont have a menage so cant do much but hacking anyway.
What I AM getting annoyed about is me keeping catching colds and illnesses. Means I cant even ride when weather is slightly ok :(
Cant wait to Jan wen we get a menage put in! hopefuly snow will leave by then!

Me! I've just found a fab instructor who really understands mine, and my horses needs! However I can't now get to him as our carpark is like an icering! I can't ride and Luka was going so nicely before all this snow =[

Me :( I was planning to hunt more november/december and let my boy have some time off from competing and lots of lessons, before picking it back up beginning of January. Now none of it's happening!! I don't mind so much missing the huting but I HATE not being able to ride at all!! AND we have a big team event mid-january and having already not ridden properly for 2 1/2 weeks, I'm really stressing we won't be able to do it. AND we bought some lights so it's the first year I would be able to ride in the dark. AND Dad is really busy with work (which is good! :)) otherwise we would be able to box over to an arena.
This is the only part of having the horses at home I don't like.
AAARRRGGGHHH!!!
I feel much better now :D;)

My story sounds a bit pitiful after all these tales of proper woe! I've only had Hugo 10 days and seen him for about 1/2 an hour Sunday, yesterday and today, since he arrived (in the field - too icy to walk up the steep hill to the yard & school). It does mean that he is learning I'm that nice lady who brings him carrots!

Been offered 2 horses on loan and to potentially compete next year and can't try either because of the snow. Iratating thing is that one is literally on the beach which would perfect to ride on but we aren't allowed to ride over the dunes as they are protected but need to walk 200 yards over an ice rink to get on it so that isnt going to happen.
So at the moment I'm looking after my current share, we have an indoor school but I've lost my mojo for schooling as I can't see a future with him. All water has frozen so having to trawl it for miles with a dodgy arm.
The weather forcast was looking better from tomorrow, but its changed and its looking naff for the forseeable future. :(

My lovely RI had drawn up a totally amazing fitness plan for us.... and now we can't do sweet FA about it due to frozen school, lunge pen and roads. Usually have good off road hacking but i'm too scared he'll do an injury in a hidden rut or hole so darent try it. Did lunge last week in a relatively safe corner but now it's not worth dragging him up there as ground is like concrete!! sigh, have 3 weeks off from uni and can do nothing.... :(
