I know this should probably not be in here but dont post in the non horsey bits of the forum.

Im stressing as I cant work due to the snow, im self employed (driving instructor) so I dont earn anything and I have to pay out £200 per week for my franchise.

Livery is due and sitting in here is doing my head in. Sorry about the glum rant, it just sucks being so close to Christmas. I have got the money but not for loads longer (esp as brought a new horse and truck in the last 2 months!!)

I just want the snow to go so I can ride my horse and go to work GRRRR.

Are there other people like me? Can we be glum together?! I supoose its the flip side of me having a cool, super flexable, easy job.

Stupid blooming weather

vickiJ - just about to start being a driving instructor but was advised to start my francise on the 8th feb because Jan is a crap time for lessons - How lucky was I. I was all for starting Jan1 and so glad I didn't.

I don't loose money but will probably have to take todays day off as a holiday.
My mum looses money as she is self employed and we couldn't get the car off the drive as there is a stream out the front of my house and didn't fancy skidding into it.

Yeah Jan is always a very quiet time but I would be fine if it wasnt for the weather.

Who are you going to work for? Have you passed all your exams?

Im loosing money and there isnt any sign of a change in the weather. With the arena being frozen i havent been able to teach and have delayed liveries coming and horses that were due to go to shows havent as the roads have been terrible.

I'm a self employed dog groomer - I have been off since Christmas eve and was supposed to be back to work on Tuesday - but my dogs scheduled all cancelled (and I'd have struggled to get in anyway) and then today I was snowed in. Tomorrow's not looking a whole lot better and it's frightening to me because I don't take unplanned time off. Ever. Never even a sick day in nearly 7 years of business. My shop overheads still need to be paid: rent, utils, tax bill due at the end of the month! eeeek! NOT happy!

out of pocket - yes but its the amount of bedding I have got through! Horses been stuck in every time the darn snow comes and then when the last lot melted the stables all flooded, so had to replace all beds, I think I will buy some shares in bedmax!

Hmm im well out of pocket!! My 4x4 broke so is costing just over £500 to fix and its sods law its 4 months out of warranty!! then no hire cars available so woman at hire company told me to get taxi and get receipt which i did then had to call back so far ive had 5 taxis at nearl £10 each to get to work and stables!! now hire company said not sure if they will pay!! and i stupidly didnt get her name.......
You live and learn i suppose!

Me and my husband are both self employed, so if we dont work we dont get paid but we still have lots of overheads like others have mentioned. My husband hasnt been able to work for 3 weeks!

not quite so bad for me as i have a full time job, but my teaching is none existant, and its that bit of extra money that really helps with training/competing etc.
everyones arenas have been frozen solid, and although mine is absolutely fine no one will risk boxing to me (and rightly so) as im on a road that doesnt get gritted so its a total no go.
damn weather.

I havent been out to work this week and whilst I don't lose money I have to make the hours up, on top of this it has been costing around £100 per week for the last 4 weeks for hay, well over double what we were expecting. I am starting to panic about how I will find the house rent this month.

We make our own hay, and sell about 90 out of 120-130 bales to a friend.
We bought 2 ponies at the end of November - we'd not really intended to buy till early spring but they just came up. They arrived in the wet, and really can't be impressed with their new location as since then then the frost and snow has meant they've eaten a fair chunk of our remaining hay (last year was a poor year for us for hay) even though we've plenty of grass and another paddock full, they can't get to it very easily as its under a foot of snow. So today, bearing in mind we're supposed to stay cold and frozen for another 10 days, and wanting to ensure we still have enough for a further 10 day+ cold snap I ordered some bales for us, for delivery when the hay man can get out and about next week/week after sometime, for us and neighbouring owner who has no storage and is worrying about running out - at more than twice the price we sold ours for.

Silly isn't it?! If it had been a normal year with a decent summer we'd still have lots of hay in the barn, it almost never snows more than an inch or two and rarely lays on the ground more than a day or two here in our suburban bit of Berkshire.

Its not that boring. I found sitting in office jobs far more boring. Your always out and about (apaart from in this stupid weather) meeting different people. Id say it can be more frustrating than boring!!
