As above really; have been riding my boy in it for about a week now, since he had an accident resulting in staples on his mouth, which were removed on Monday.

He is going really well in it, I am very pleased he has taken to it so well, as he is 11yrs. old and has never been without a bit before.

I am interested to know others experiences of riding in bitless bridles!

I have ridden in one - horse just prefered not having a bit. I don't dislike them but I think in the wrong hands they are trouble. Would prefer to ride with a bitted bridle (happy mouth or snaffle) but totally understand why some people use them.

We ride Ellie in a Dr Cooks and find she goes really well in it and that we have more brakes too. Considering that she's 29 you wouldn't expect to need brakes would you

Meeeee!!! I love it, so does my boy. Tried him on lots of bits, but they just didn't work for us. He has a tongue like a duvet and I know he also had dodgy teeth as I had them floated in April. I also put it on my friend's mare who used to have an ordinary loose ring snaffle but chucked her head up and down constantly when ridden. Friend put her in a rubber bar, which mare thought was great as she bit almost right through it and just ran off, head in the air. She stopped all that when I rode her in the Dr Cook, but friend was too nervous to ride 'without brakes'. TBH mare probably needs her teeth doing too.

I would say that I don't do any kind of schooling at the moment but FB did do OK in it when we did (not as nice an outline as when he had his pelham, but not so many behaviour issues either!) He also jumped in it better than anything else.

justjoules- what sort of trouble are they in the wrong hands? I can see why they might be but would be interested to know what you think.

I do and my boy is fab in it.

Re: if in wrong hands, this applies to any bridle, doesn't it? And wondered what specific trouble they may cause - I can only think of poll pressure if the were ridden with short reins in a vice like grip, is there something else?

Or squeezing their face until their eyes pop out?

I don't, but I do drive with one

Mare has never gone better

But there is no specific pressure on any one place to cause their eyes to pop out (its more of a head hug) and the cheek pieces are thin so again I can't see how this would cause eyes to bulge out of their head. The majority of the cheek piece/crossunder lies along their cheek bones.

In my three years of riding in one and seeing others riding, driving and competing in them I have never seen anything that was cause for concern and definitely no eye bulging.

Chicomio, were you being sarcastic? I think you may have been ...

I am really interested in trying one of these but they are very expensive to buy 'just to try' incase it doesn't suit my horse.

As with most other things, I see that there are cheaper versions...has anyone tried one of these or should I just go for it and buy the genuine one and hope for the best?

they do a 30 day guarantee return thingy on the site where I got mine a few years ago.

I used to ride my TB in a Dr Cook's - he went lovely in it, he hated having a bit in his mouth.

I tried one for a week on my old (as in used to own) mare she hated it and kept rearing /throwing her head about & was back to normal when I put her bitted bridle back on

I guess with everything some like it & some dont
