I am about to get a new saddle and it turns out that the best fit for me and my boy is a 19.5" saddle! How many of you have a saddle that length as the fitter said they are quite rare! It is a gorgeous 'Ideal' one too!

AM very excited!

I had an ideal 19 inch made because my horse had the back to take it and I am a bit on the heavy side. HOWEVER, I had wellup stirrup bars fitted so that I could adjust the stirrup bar. Saddlers assume that anyone who orders a 19 inch saddle is tall and has large feet.If you are not as described, a conventional 19 inch saddle can be a nightmare.Saddles must fit both horse and rider. Also I had 18 inch saddle flaps fitted so that my boots cleared them. You might also want to consider the twist of the saddle, too much and you may not be able to use your leg effectively.Do your homework ,a bad saddle will ruin your riding.

animalmad- your horse must have a very long back! Saddles of that size are very rare and very few horses can take them. Just be careful that the saddle doesnt go over the last rib when in the correct place with the tree points behind the shoulder blades. Unfortunately sometimes riders need a bigger seat size than the horse can take and doing this only ever means problems.

Hehe Major has a VERY long back!

We still had a good 2 inches left lol!!

This is a terrible pic of him with an 18" saddle on!

I am 5ft 8ish with size 8 feet lol! So I think our saddle fitter is doing us proud lol!!!

I am so excited about having nice saddle that fits!!!

Going on your photos it looks like the saddle is a bit too far forward in the ridden pic and his long back looks to come from his loins- they look longer than the actual area where a saddle can sit. But thats only on those photos! If youve tried the saddle and it fits then im obviously wrong!

What a lovely view you have where you ride- how lucky!

That saddle was such a bad fitting one it is unreal (that is the Stubben) I am now selling now lol!

The view is near Ilkley and was taken whilst out on my first hack with him. I am not there anymore but still live Ilkley way!

My new Saddle is a right beauty... I wont be getting it til next month though grrr! No riding for me til then!!!

From the look of you both ,a conventional 19 inch saddle with permanently fixed stirrup bars will cause you a lot of grief.Your feet will be dragged forward so you will lean forwards and create a pressure point at the sholders.I dont think any off the peg 19 inch will suit you.
