Just wondering I cant be the only one that had a cheapish horse as a project to sell on and is still here and will probably never be sold on :D

I got Samba as something to play with and reschool while I was at uni and just to keep me ticking over until I could afford to buy something to do some competing with and riding club stuff with. Well shes now staying put, so I cant affliate as shes only 14.1hh and im a adult but I love her to bits now and hopefully will never have to see her go. Planning to do some low level ODE's and dressage with her at some point.

I reckon my filly is going to be a keeper. Bought her cheap with the intention of selling her in a few years to help put the deposit down on a house but every time OH mentions it now I can't quite bring myself to say yes. I usually mumble something about we'll see. Hehe. She's such a sweety though.

Brown horse was meant to be a project so someone else could sell him and now he lives with me too. I've gone soft in my old age. I used to be perfectly capable of selling a horse but clearly not any more!

i bought a youngster (a tiddly colt!) to handle and get started. at first he was too nasty to sell on as he would have been passed on from home to home and not suitable for a child but now i don't want him to go anywhere because he is so trusting and loving! but sadly i'm going to have to let him go although i'm thinking permanent loan to the right home as i can't ride him (too big), too sharp for my own kids but would love to go out and have fun.

so i'm now torn between getting him backed (means a good home) and not doing it (means i keep him! :) lol ).

I'm getting a project pony in the New Year. It's going to be hard, but I have got to remember that the reason I am getting one is to bring it on and then sell it on ... we already have 3 which are staying forever, we don't need anymore! :p

Yeap! Loving it though, got a busy year with them all next year now!
I paid a decent price for Frazier with the intention of tidying up a few things and finding him a new mum...that was in March this year. Plans are to qualify him for HOYS workers in 2011

Borris i got at the same time for cheap-ish and was a longer term project (6mths!) He is now registered with BE and BS and will be eventing next year with me!

Whoops!
OH regularly mentions the word 'sale' which is often followed by 'spare room' from me, that seems to solve the problem!
So busy 2011, 2 doing BE and 1 showing :)

Yep, I have a couple

My main riding horse I bought as a 2yr old 'project' to sell on, she's 10 now & I will never part with her.

4yr old filly bought at a day old - can't see me parting with her

Gelding rising 2 - he won't be going anywhere either!!!!

I do have another 4 who will have to be sold on at some point but that will b hard! :(

Its a little bit different for me, but I got Alfs on short-term loan (6 months) as a step between my 13"2 and a horse so I could have something less pony-ish to hunt and do a bit of schooling with. Next thing I know, he's flying round 1m show-jumps, double clear at his 1st unaff intro and learning to be a bit more normal with respect to the dressage (when I got him top of the blocks was an acheivement, as was cantering a whole circle & xc wasn't even thought of!).
His owners decided they were so pleased with how we were looking after him and he was so happy with us and his new competition lifestyle that he could stay :) For as long as I wanted!
So yeahh, three years on and his owners and I are planning our season next year! I most definately struck gold with that project xx

I have one that I brought this time last year, to sell in the spring....oops!!

She was only a cheapy ex racehorse, but turns out she is pretty cool and totally obsessed about jumping anything! Going to BD her this winter and then maybe sell her in spring... or maybe keep her to go BE on next season.

If she stays for next year and proves to be as good as my trainers think she might be she will no doubt be here forever! I was also wondering about what her babies might look like too :rolleyes::rolleyes:

Shes the bay on the right of my sig...
