I know its a total nono all the trainers say dont get siblings but as Darcy & Diesel were rescue they came as a package.

They are trained separately but walked/run together and today I got to wondering how unalike they are. Darcy being a bitch is a lot smaller but she is so intelligent you only have to show her once and she usually gets it. If she dosnt then I show her a different way and shes got it.
Diesel is a great big clown with not one brain cell in his head, my daughter says he is intelligent but he pretends to be thick.If this is true he is more intelligent than her. Training wise with Diesel is half the time you can teach him something and do it for a week miss a days training and it all gone to pot. Maybe she has a better memory than him.

I realise in humans siblings are all different but was hoping dogs would be more similar to each other.

So do anyone of you have siblings(dogs) and what are their differences?

I should add they have lovely temperments the vets are always impressed with this and their manners.

I have sisters and they are very different. One has all the brains the other all the looks. But they get on well together and have had no problem training them, other than the usual terrier habit of disappearing down holes!
 
I have German Pointer sisters, we had the runt of the litter, who ended up being the bigger of the 2 and the more mentally challenged. She's just a big oaf :).
They both have lovely temperaments and you can count on one hand how many times they have had a real bitch fight in 10 years.

We took them to a gun dog trainer as they were like naughty toddlers :eek: when they went to a local class.

Having had sisters, it wouldn't put me off having siblings again.
 
My friend has my dogs older brother and they are not at all similar! Her dog is a complete clown, very soppy and quite calm. On the other hand my dog is not that soppy, very hyper but very intelligent when he actually concentrates!
 
I had a brother and sister (both in sig, I no longer have the female)
Not very alike at all.
Female very small, good coat, very hardy, would look well on cornflakes, male oversized, bloody awful coat, prone to allergies and infections, hard to feed/keep condition on.

Male very boisterous, in your face, loves people, a tad insecure but masked with ballsy-ness, bulldozes through life, a quick learner and enjoys a challenge, respectful to the handler.
Female very timid, very insecure, not a big fan of strangers, very dizzy, cannot take any sort of correction, noise sensitive, will shut down when she dosen't want to do something (that can be something as simple as going through a gap in a hedge, with positive encouragement).

Oh and in summer I did walk them apart and train apart. Could not be on the training field at the same time or they would howl the place down until they were together.
Male has been trained to quite a good standard, female, not so much :o

We got brother and sister labs. There is very little that is the same about them. He is a big whimp as soon as you raise your voice(not even at him) she is much more confident. She was alot better at learning to start with, he wouldnt pick anything up. But now they are both really good.Great attitudes and really good with young kids.
 
We have got 2 Yorkie sisters - well their papers say they are sisters but I do wonder sometimes!
They look totally different, are a different colour, are built differently and have completely different personalities!

In a way I am glad they are so different as they both have such big personalities that would be odd if they were the same!
 
I have brother and sister although from different litters. The only similarity is that they are both rots!! Sage is a complete loon and Dexter is much more laid back but very protective of both us and his home. This is them a couple of years ago. I love both these pictures. :D

This was probably 4 years ago as Dex looks extremely yopung!!

Lexie I would like to agree with the girl thing but my previous 2 were both boys and very intelligent. I have to say though that Darcy is way more intelligent than all of them ,I think she is exceptional so wasted on me.:(

Mattilda I love your Rotties what a handsome pair they are.
 
Isabel and Elliot are half brother and sister (same mom different dad)

Isabel is sweet, cuddly (normally) very well behaved, a real mommys girl :D

Elliot, on the other hand, is the spawn of satan, he chews, he digs, he growls at other dogs, he growls at the guy who judged us at ringcraft, he has gone for me, (twice) i couldnt cuddle him till he was nearly 6 months old because i would have lost a nose, ear or other body part :s

Had Elliot been my first shiba 17 years ago.......he would have been my last. Just to add he is worth all the hard work me and his breeder/part owner have put into him :D

Ah, I think I know who Elliot might be related to :p for all that, he makes me laugh so much and he is so bloody smart and a joy to train. I am sure yours is the same! No 'off' switch!
 
I swear Dylans Sister was up for rehoming on Labrador Rescue recently as a Lab x Rottie(right area, same age, basically was dylan in the picture). (Dylan was advertised as Rottie x St Bernard we did see the parents......) But in this world who knows he could have lab in him TBH but no arguement over the Rottweiler.

However judging by Dylan ATM I can fully understand why someone would want to re home (Joke) hes just a big loon of a Rottie at the moment and pushing boundries etc.
 
Ruby and Libby - Springer Spangle sisters. I was warned that they would fight and not get on, but they are adorable and inseperable (almost four years old now). My friend had whippet brothers, but they fought so much that she ended up having to rehome one to her sister.

Both of my Spangles are loving but sadly quite subservient to my other dogs. One has actually been terrorised by our Springador puppy!!! They are both very cuddly and absolutely useless as working dogs but we love them nevertheless!

Oh, and I'm getting married at 12.30pm tomorrow so really shouldn't be on the forum now!!!!!

My friend and I have full siblings but theres a year between them and they are similar to look at colour wise but one is rough coated the other smooth, one is very obedient , does as he is told and smiles a lot ! he is however scared of things like thunder storms or wind coming down the chimney, Mine is super intelligent but uses it fully to his advantage and is not always obedient - terrier thing, he has selective hearing, but is the boldest bravest little dog and makes a superb hot water bottle and is very sensitive to my emotions , and as a dog who shares the end of the bed, he does not fart a lot which is a big plus ,but his brother does !
 
I kept a whole litter one (pugs) after their mum was killed when they were 8 weeks old. They all were very individual from day one and have grown up to have very different temperments and personalities :D They all look very similar though... lol
 
I have a mother and daughter, they are very similar, but also very different!!! I also see the mother's siblings at agility shows and they all have the same superb temperament, but the range in size from about 22" to just over 17" and are a variety of colours. I also see 2 pups from the litter I bred and like their mum and sister they have a brilliant temperament.

This was the mum (in the middle) with her litter brothers and sister when they were a year old.

This is Jake (black) and Brig. Jake was intelligent, pushed the boundaries, very affectionate but didn't do cuddles, very calm. Brig is Mr Soppy, very excitable in the car, calm in the house, likes to be on my knee, is not very bright. I think they looked nothing alike. They were trained and brought up together from 7 weeks but never minded being separated. I don't think they were at all similar to look at or in their character.

Zak and Bear, now 13 months, are very different: Zak is a comedian, very clever, cheeky, demanding, attention seeking. The OH chose him because of this. Bear is soppy, calm, very handsome, not demanding, happy to be second in any line. He's an awful lot like Brig. I chose him because he was calm and cuddly. He and Brig get on and are usually together.

I have to say all your dogs are fab and its been really interesting reading all their differences. Iam so surprised so many of you have siblings as breeders and trainers all say dont because they focus on each other rather than you.

I don't know who came up with the whole you shouldn't get siblings, I've never found it a problem. One of the pups much prefers our older dog and is basically a carbon copy of him. The other pup is completely independent and couldn't care less if he's with the others.
 
CC I didnt have a choice my 2 came as a package. I thought the chances of them being rehomed together would be slim so heart ruled and I took them.

They have such a bond together and Im sure I dont mean as much to them as they do to each other.
 
Oh I know it's each to their own and you are doing a fabby job with them :) and I have to say siblings are great company for one another and I do miss seeing them run about like lunatics together, now I have to be the other lunatic :p
 
My grandparents had male siblings who were very different in personality, one was laid back and the other hyperactive. They fought terribley though with each other and it put me off having siblings. My friend had male siblings and they fought each other too. Not sure of the science behind that or if its just a coincidence but its enough for me not to have them.
 
Palaminomare thats why breeders and trainers say dont have siblings.

I believe it depends on the breed of dog refighting ,the guarding breeds and certain terriers would be more likely to fight rather than the Springers,Labs etc.
