Who has hot water in their stable block?

My yard owner is about to rebuild his stable block as it is structurally unsound and we've been discussing what sort of facilities he'll put in when he rebuilds. I was mentioning that having hot water would be a complete godsend to wash the horses with in winter but the new location is some way away from the main house and probably not feasible or economic to run hot water pipes down to the stable block.

Has anyone had hot water put into their stables? How did you do it? Do you have a separate boiler and is it electric or gas powered? Do you have a special horse shower attachment or can it be rigged up from the taps?

Any advice welcome!

Oooh, do you mind me asking how much it was (sorry website doesn't have prices!)? That's exactly what I had in mind!

We only have cold taps but 2 kettles in each of the 2 tack rooms so we can get a reasonable amount of hot water at any one time.

Just remembered - There is a water heater in the toilets so if we need more we can get it from there but never had the need!

I've got an immersion heater in my tack room that supplies hot water to the sink and wash box. The hot water in wash box in on a shower attachment.

the immersion heater was about £150 but does need to be installed by electrician. I had this done when stables built so had plumber and electrician to hand.

if you really want to upset YO, suggest getting plumber to install large capacity washing machine when they do immersion heater. my 10kg whirlpool (semi-industrial) was £500 and can cope with all the light and medium weight rugs.

Don't know how much it was but we have a little heater thing on the wall it heats about a standard sized bucket at a time and is on a timer switch that can be set for 30, 60 and 120 mins it is fantastic for cleaning tack and tails although don't bother with it for washing the whole horse.

I had a water heater fitted to my stables when the rest of the electrical work was done - sadly I haven't yet got round to having the autowaterers put in so there's no water supply to it . . . . . . . perhaps this year

We are supposed to be having hot water heated from pipes running under the muck heap, and boosted by a solar panel.
It isn't connected to the washroom as yet yet but of course heating the water should be free!
Suggest that to your yard owner, or ask him to put a coin meter on the immersion heater when you need to turn it on, that way you only pay for what you use not everyone else's share.
The small wall electric water heaters give around one and a half buckets of water, so solar power in summer will give an awful lot more...

We have a "hot wash" . We have a box on the wall which the cold water pipe runs to, as the water passes through the box it heats the water and comes out the hose at a nice horse washing temperature! No need for a boiler/heater etc or hot water pipes and can be installed anywhere that theres a cold water supply. Very simple to use, water is always on and controlled by the hose shower end, you turn a switch to make the heater work. If the switch is off the water remians cold.
