Went to a show on Sunday (Leeds Castle) were there was quite a few classes where people were riding side saddle. It just looked so elegant, especially with all the gear.

I had a lesson a few years back and I actually found it harder then it looks. Think I might think about booking myself another lesson. Wonder if side saddles come in round cob size????

I had 2 side-saddle lessons, and was told i was a natural!! Was cantering in the first one

I really want to start up again!! I might buy a sidesaddle and try it on Hemir!! I think it looks elegant too, but not when you first start!!! I think it would come in a round cob size..but not sure - would have thought so!!!!!

I have had a side saddle lesson, was told I was natural it was brilliant, we watched the other lessons then me and my friends was in a lesson together 4 of us,and we didnt stop was trotting and cantering all the other groups did walk and trot. was brilliant. I would advise you to go, It was somewhere in preston where I went of some well known woman only im not into side saddle so dont know who it was.

There will be saddles to fit any horse. all sorts of horses do it.

Aww thank you, photo was taken at NPS area 14 in Essex did think about going to Leeds Castle but this one was on my doorstep.

I can recommend a lady who leases them if you pm me for details. A really good example will set you back between 1 and £2K. She is based in Cornwall and will travel to fit.

I did find it an expensive caper to get set up with all the gear but there are people who can help with hire and second hand kit, contact the side saddle association for more details.

My horse has with my trainer, but I haven't!

I'd say if your horse has a smooth, easy to sit to stride anyway, more's the better. Mine's got quite choppy little paces which made him rather bumpy in a side saddle, but he tried his heart out anyway

My horse tried it for the first time at age 16 and got the hang of it really quickly.

I have no idea where to look for saddles though, sorry!

I ride side saddle (on and off!), mainly on my overgrown connemara - he takes an extra wide, so saddles for cobs are around, but harder to find.

I love showing and hacking side saddle, but find schooling really tiring!

the place nr Preston mentioned by MissTwinkleToes is Wrea Green Equestian Centre - at Wrea Green. i went there the other year and also bought myself a side saddle thou never use it as i need to get the saddle to change a strap and i never get around to it!

Me too!!

this is me and my boy showing that ex-racehorses really can turn their hoof to anything..... I think he had the saddle on 5 times before I went to this show

I was hoping to get to the leeds castle show, but someone decided to tweak his hamstring resulting in lots of time off!

Best place to look is on the SSA web site
