Am buying my new event saddle from teh internet and they are going to send out a template, how does this work? Has anyone done this and thats all?

I plan on doing this buying the saddle then getting my saddle fitter to come and have a look too - what have you done?

my mum always uses a stretched out coat hanger or something to take a template!

don't know if that helps or not!

I've never used a template to fit a saddle, but when I bought a saddle from a saddler (who came out to fit it to my horse) he made a template of the horses back (ie cross section) at the withers and then where the back of the saddle fits.

I may be wrong, but I'm not sure that this would be very accurate because how would you know how far along the horses back the measurements were taken?

Would you be able to get a saddler out to try some saddles on and then buy one off the internet of the same fitting, make and model?

Tempting as the offers may be I dont think I would risk this option. I would want the person making the saddle to take their own template. I suspect that if you take the template and the saddle then does not fit you will have no comeback with the seller as they will claim they made the saddle to the measurements etc that you gave them and they are not responsible.

I had my saddler make the template, add notes and took loads of pictures. The saddler checked it over when it came and it was fine. I did buy it through the saddler so it was included in the cost of the saddle. Maybe you could pay the saddler just for a correct template?

I cant find anyone who sells this saddle who can come and fit it.

I know what size my current saddle is, I will do the template and get my saddler to help with the template and then get a saddler to come and fit it for me as well to make sure.
