just out of interest?not just outdoors with horses but any relevant jobs?and how did you get your job?qualifications etc!

I used to as well, worked with hunters, pointers and stunt horses for films. Got the jobs through local advertising, word of mouth and H&H. I went to agri college and did a BTEC in equine studies, started doing my stages. no money in it though. At one point I was earning about 70p an hour, 6 1/2 day week, no holiday entitlement, 12 - 14 hour days - no thank you!!!

Like MoonWalker - I used to but it is such hard work for little financial reward. Did my BHS stages, and worked in riding schools/livery yards. Just look after my own horses now!

I used to physically work with horses but now I am more a office body for an equine company. I have doen my HND in Equine Studies and also Advanced certificate in marketing. Money is better but still not great (mind you what job is when you have an expensive hobby of a horse)

Worked for 18 yrs in a riding school /livery yard so did teaching, breaking in bosses TB's , stud work, showing inhand/ridden, when boss died carried on with livery yard for 18 months but then gave up cos was fed up of being on call 24/7 and no money, got BHS stages 123, NVQ level 4 yard management and various other level 3 horse things

I work p/t in a livery yard/ riding school/ event yard alongside doing my BSc Equine Studies. It's awful pay though and recently I seem to have turned PA to my boss (should ask for a pay rise for that!) but generally it's all the mucking out and little reward. But I would (honestly) rather do that than go back and work in the bookshop/stationers I used to work in (there were no windows upstairs, it was horrible!). I'm a very outdoors-y person.
I don't intend to do this for much longer than a year from now though. Finish the degree and get a proper job (and buy a horse) is the plan.

I use to until oct last yr when I was signed off with back & leg injuries. Doctor's have told me that it's very doubtfull I'l be able to work with horses again.
I trained at a private competition yard up2 st 3, since then done show ponies & horses, eventers, ran livery & retrained x-racehorses! Love the work but have come to a point in my life where a bit more financial security would be nice!!
My advice for anyone wanting to or does work with horses is to get personal accident insurance ( make sure it covers for horse work)..I didnt have cover at the time!!!

As others i used to. Left uni early and didnt know what to do with myself so i worked at a racing yard for 6 months then for a private eventing yard for 2 years. It was fab at the time. I lived with my parents so the money i earnt was fine. But there comes a time when you need to stand on your own feet and i couldnt do that on the money i earned so i got an office job. In this weather i dont miss it much and my horses are my hobby now and i find i value them more.

Work pt as a groom at a full livery yard on the forest. Moneys not bad and the place is really quite nice. Entering my second year of BSc Equine Sports Performance in October, and will soon start training (alongside the degree) to be an Equine Podiatrist and an Equine Shiatsu practicioner, which are the two career paths I intend to follow
