having had my first fracture ever and im 47 ive noticed lots of us have broken legs ,wrists ,mrs ms back and selfishley it does make me feel a bit better as im feeling very frustrated and grumpy today at how restricted i am.who else can join. i was already feeling sorry for myself as horse did a tendon last week.

Can I join? First proper break last week at 34, wrist and I am so bored and in a lot of pain. Also suspect I may of broken toe yesterday when I fell getting out of bed, stupid painkillers making me fuzzy.

i can be a member- badly broken collarbone which is refusing to heal properly :(

this is the 3rd time it has broken so a bit of a mess, i am missing the end of the eventing season and i have 2 lovely youngsters who aren't being ridden and the weather is lovely outside.

hospital tomorrow for 4th (!) x-ray and the bloomin' thing had better have started to knit together!!

I'm not broken as such but I have a big hole in my tummy where I had to have my spleen removed after a nasty fall 7 weeks ago so please can I join in? :)

Can I join, even though I'm mending now? I fractured my right ankle 8 weeks ago and have spent 6 weeks in plaster, no weight bearing allowed at all, and have spent the last two weeks getting used to walking again. I can finally drive so can escape the 4 walls. I was getting serious cabin fever :p I am desparate to start riding again but my ankle and foot are still too swollen to fit in riding boots (I know because I've already tried :D). Does anyone know how long the swelling lasts?

It's frustrating but time does pass. Get well wishes to you all.

Yikes, I feel comparativley lucky! I'm not in pain, just niggles really (though getting to sleep can be a drag), and I've not had an operation (yet!).

Very gentle hugs. Re. the frustration, write a list of what you would like to do if you were a millionaire, if you only had one hand, etc. Keep doing it, you'll be amazed at what comes out of it! I'm on The Game Plan (now that could have come out wrong lol) and it's proving useful :D

I've started gentle walks and looking at my diet, with the aim that at the end of the four months I won't be an horrendously fat and unfit bat :D :D :D

I'm trying to make sure that I don't look back on this time and feel like it is completely wasted :D

huge hugs to everyone.

I can join too. Sat at home in a cast after a replacement ankle. WHY cos I fractured tib and fib (with dislocation) last year and wasn't put back correctly (a common problem, so can't even sue) Therefore ended up with totally worn away talus and bottom of Tib

To anyone who has this injury, if it starts to get worse even a little get a referal asap. I was told it was normal to get pain for over a year, so carried on. BIG mistake

I have 2 wks left in this cast, then upto 6wks in an air cast and extensive phsyio

Relativly small to all of your brokeness but I chipped a bone in my leg when a horse fell on it a couple of days ago, fun fun but I can still ride (I'm not meant to) if my horse wasn't lame :(

Me too!! Got dumped on concrete yard whilst trying to mount, black eye, stitches in elbow and soft tissue damage, bruising to back combined with torn ligaments and muscles in groin area so on crutches for 6-8 weeks awaiting some physio. Not too bad compared to many but the universal feeling of frustration at not driving, being able to do anything much unaided is just the pits isn't it? I'm lucky enough to be back at work????????........not sure about that really but stops the brain numbing and as Mrs M says the worst worry is lack of exercise and even more fat creeping on due to almost total inactivity. As another of mature years I do not want to 'grow' anynmore!!! Best wishes to all for patience and speedy recoveries

crikey theres a lot of people ,and i know it shouldnt but does make me feel a bit less sorry for myself. figured every one else was enjoying being out and about. my main frustration is missing burghley my favourite day of the year, not being able to do horses on my own,got 3 in seperate fields as one has damaged tendon, cant work am a community nurse drive all day, take daughter and horse to training competitions etc.... sorry off again .mine is not too bad as not too painful .hugs to everyone.i guess it makes you appreciate things we take for granted.

Can I join? I broke my back, t10-t12 in February, had operation to have rods and pins in, also 4 months later Dr discovered I had also broken my shin bone! I kept telling them it hurt!!! Well on the road to recovery now, pain killers being my bestest friend!

May I join? I had surgery for a broken bone in my foot 8 weeks ago - it's mostly mended but still has a screw in it and has to be wrapped. Plus I'm feeling sorry for myself because the weather is cooling off so the arthritis is kicking in pretty strong - my right wrist is pretty much useless and my ankles feel like bone on bone. :(

Can I also join please? I broke my shoulder in June and the hospital said I'd torn my muscles and sent me for physio. Still waiting for hospital appointment and to make matters worse, my gorgeous physio has b*ggered off and got married! :( aaaand, I still can't ride!

I'm another for this fast growing group!!

Fell off jumping just over 3 weeks ago. Pilon fracture to the tibia. Finally got home after 9 days in hospital and an operation to plate and pin it.

The fracture has gone throught the cartilage end so have damage there that may cause traumatic arthritis which is scary after reading all the worn ankles here!

Been for my stitches out and a new pot on today and asked how long before I could ride and he said 3 months!! This shocked me as expected to be back on riding within 6 weeks!! Oh well, will have to do as told as I want it to heal properly.

This new pot doesn't feel quite right? I had a back slab on after the operation so this is the first full cast of my lower leg. My toes are cold and it feels tight but not so tight its causing pins and needles. Should it be this tight and should my toes be so cold?!

Here's some healing vibes for you all......!! The bit I can spare. :o

Please can i join the crocked club? i have been in hospital 9 weeks now with a long term illness which has resulted in osteopenia so apparently if a horse sneezed on me i would crumble (well maybe a slight exaggeration but still...) not ridden since May but still got a long time to go if i behave myself & dont ride until i am meant to. whats worse is im a student doctor so no good at being a patient at all!!
maybe we should create our own crocked club horse trials since we're missing out on burghley? not sure how it would work though. think i need more ideas for this one...

:o

now for my medicy bit:

the cast wont do its job unless it is tight but it can cause problems if it is too tight. are your toes on the foot in the cast noticibly colder to the touch than on the other foot? if so is there a logical explanation for this (i.e. you have a sock on good foot but not bad foot- dont laugh patients genuinely do this!). if there is a noticeable difference with no explanation then i would seek medical attention. if you dont want to go to A+E then you could ring NHS direct for more advice although they may still tell you to go.

HOWEVER IF:
1) your toes are a different colour to the other foot (i.e. pink or blue or pale)
2) you get severe pain or a different type of pain than you are normally experiencing
3) you cant feel your toes
THEN GO STRAIGHT TO A+E as there could be something more serious going on that needs addressing urgently.

please note i am only a student & so you should see a doctor for certain advice & if you are at all concerned then you are better off getting yourself checked out & it being nothing than staying at home & it all going wrong later.

Although not as serious as many of the injuries people are suffering please may I join? I broke my Scaphoid bone and was put in plaster of paris on Monday. Have got a joyful trip to the hospital tomorrow to have nice light cast put on and a nice bright colour (the only thing that I can think of a positive). :D

Huge healing vibes to you all. Hope you aren't in too much pain. x

Thanks Sally87 for the advice!

My cast does feel tight and my toes are both covered the same. I have a capilary refill time of around 5 seconds when I press a toe. The toes are warmer now so will just keep my eye on it. I just feel like its tight and very stuck in position. Probably so used to the back slab that had room. :-)

Its definately not compartment syndrome as that is something I've been watching for and I believe the pain is really bad for this so will know something wrong.

Can I join the broken club?

Tipped a kettle of boiling water down my front on Wednesday, preparing a poultice for the horse. No real damage but quite sore.

Horse objected to having her poultice changed on Thursday morning, yanked her leg about, and dislocated my shoulder for the millionth time. Fortunately it popped back in on it's own, so just achey with some muscle damage.

Dragged OH to help me poultice last night, all went smoothly. Had some extra time, so off to the fields to take our pup for a run out. On the way to the field, I tripped over a stone :o and have sprained (possibly broken) my ankle. And grazed/bruised my elbow.

Nothing major, but really? All in 1 week? Along with the horse having a hoof abcess (vet visit), the puppy shredding carpet and eating it (vet visit) and the puppy now being ill through teething (possibly another vet visit).

AAARGH!

sall 87 like the idea of the crocked club horse trials for those that cant get to burghley because of illness and injury.... i too am in healthcare ,im a nurse and they do say drs and nurses are terrible patients.

can i join?

Not broken as such but lots of niggling illnesses and aches recently.

Had tonsilitus 2 weeks ago, not nice but went in about a week and a half, thought i was better but i thought wrong, lol!

Then fell off horse riding saturday, landed on back but thankfully didn't damage it at all was just very stiff and sore for a few days.

Then my lower leg/knee starts to hurt and i get weird red lumps on my shin, which i thought was related to the fall but no, looks like the tonsilitus had given me Erythema Nodosum. So am now back to hobbling a bit with a very stiff and painful knee and need blood tests to check i don't have underlying leprosy/tb/lymphoma etc. Probably the tonsilitus though :p

BUT.... nothing compared to most people on here and i hope all your broken bones are mended soon! :)
