Hi

I'm thinking of buying a house... it's near to a village called Gedney, which is sort of Cambs/Lincs border...

Does anyone here know of any horsey stuff going on round there? when we went to view, almost every person seemed to have stables/horses... so it seems to be a horsey area.

this house doesn't have a manege, so i'd be looking for one that i could hire once a week or so. also... i'd need a hacking friend...

can anyone help?

I live not far from Gedney - there are lots of horsey people around there.

I used to go to a riding school there called the Hacienda - they don't have any horses for adults to ride, as they specialise in kiddies, but they're very good and you could probably ride in their menage. If I had a horse I would be your hacking buddy!!!

If you want to PM me a link to a pic of the house (I assume it's on the rightmove website or something?) I may well know of it - one of my mum's friends has a house for sale in that area!

hmm..be a bit careful if you want hacking, check the OS map no249, orange explorer series, there are someofficial bridleways shown on the OS map, but some parts are road work - we've been looking at moving that way also. and it can be windy, but there are loads of horses and not much building so if you want to escape to a rural area, its probably OK.

i've noticed lots of the agents refer to 'good hacking' when really there aren't official bridlepaths, just lots of farmer's fields they presume you can hack across... i'm not too worried about a bit of roadwork for myself, but when the kids are out, i'd prefer them to hack somewhere safe. i didn't think to look at an OS map, thank you! i'll see if there are some bridlepaths nearby.

i'm not bothered by the wind, as we already live in windy fenland... and are used to it.

oooh, exciting. we're waiting to hear if our offer has been accepted....

I actually moved to Gedney 6 months ago and love it, hacking is ok but I just love the space and starting to get a few horsey contacts now.
