Who needs a farm cat anyway

When Bertie was a puppy he often used to bounce into a hedge and come out with a mouse. I thought he just got lucky or happened to find a dead one.
Then he started getting them the garden, I put it down to the cat bringing them and him picking them up.
It’s become clear though that Bert is the world’s most efficient mouser! It’s almost unbelievable. He puts the actual cat to shame as he’s way better at it.
We haven’t totally cracked the garden wall hopping but all he does is hop over, catch a mouse and come straight back in! (he’s getting on the yard not the road)
He finds them everywhere, the nice thing is he dispatches them really quickly, none of the horrible playing with the poor little things like the cat will.

I’ve never known a dog do this!

My Winnie catches mice all the time she will know whete one is and literally sit in wait for it, Mavis will have a go as well although she isn't as quick it's been carnage at times when one is on the yard as they noth will chase its like a cartoon sketch

We get next doors peacocks on our property quite a bit and will chase them they love that game, the birds do just fly off making a racket and sit on the roof thet then run round trying to find ways to get to the roof

The Hooligan on the other hand goes at it like a bull in a china shop & can’t even catch the slightly stunned ones that Horrid brings back & gifts him (it does keep him entertained for about 20 minutes trying to find where they’ve gone though!)

The jrt (yes you read that right. Jack. Russell. Terrier) bounds up to rats and does a play bow.

My little 9 month Shi Tzu is a demon baby rabbit exterminator! For the last 3 weeks she's been diving under the horsebox and flushing anything out, 4 clean kills so far!
(I'm sure she thinks the box has a magic trap that they drop from, not that its parked over a bunny highway!)

She's also tried flushing out deer, but I've canned that idea by putting her back on a long line if I'm up in the top paddocks. At 5.2kg I've no idea what she thinks she'll do with one!

My little Cecil is a deer stalker. I watched once in horror as he got way too close to one. It stopped, turned to face him and stamped a foot. He too stopped, turned and came straight back to me

We used to have a LabxGSD who caught mice. I once saw her swallow one whole! I also knew a Dalmation who caught mice.

He won't be a happy bunny when they scream abuse at him for any slight that they perceive him to have made!
I stabled next door to several. They used to lurk and then run out and screech and flap. Arabian ex-working stallion used to run away as fast as he could.

That puts me off even more, He also wants a parrot, A proper big parrot I'm definitely fighting that one too!

The fish farm across the lane from us has peacocks. Beautiful but can be aggressive when they have babies and they have big spurs which can do a lot of damage.

Peacocks are noisy, do exactly as they please, wander all over annoying the neighbours and will try and kill you if they have babies. Their only saving grace is the look pretty.

My whippet is a good mouse hunter too, in fact she is much better at catching mice than rabbits!

Purdey is absolutely useless. She spots them, eagerly rushes over to the point where we think she's about to catch it. Then she'll just stand there and watch it disappear down a hole/crack and continue to snuffle at said hole or crack for 30 minutes until we drag her inside

Oh and if its a frog she tries to get it to play with her...
