I would like to have a copy (as I believe they are now able to be e mailed) of a set of X-rays that a 'specialist' vet took of my mares stifle, hock feet etc when my own vet referred her there because of a lameness problem. Am i entitled to receive a copy as I was never shown them on the day but paid for them before we left the building!

When I had my horse vetted I also had all his legs x-rayed, I have all the actual x-rays at home, I'm sure your entitled to them, you paid for them.

As far as I am aware, the vet practice owns the originals but you are entitled to view them and request copies. Recalled from the vague memories of my degree (so could be totally wrong

I had a copy of my mare's MRI scan (only the most useful one) sent to me by the place we had her referred to. Didn't even have to ask, so I assumed it was normal practise!

They belong to the practice. If the practice has digital x-rays then yes you can have a copy. However if they are still old school, then you can go and see them but you can not keep them.

Oh thanks for this post. Shall ask the vet for our xrays as would love to see them (spent enough on them

When i sold my last horse i payed for a CD of xrays taken of her Right knee (slightly bigger than left) to show to potential buyers there was nothing sinister

The practice probably retain ownership as you have likely paid for the acquisition and interpretation of the radiographs but not for the images themselves, that being said most practices will release copies.
