About 8-10 years ago when it was so wet only about 20 horses finished the xc!
Im hoping its not going to be the same this year

Weather warnings being issued here today, although I know Burghley is further East than us.

Looking forward to some more dressage action today.

Hope it isn't as messy as that

They have spent such a fortune on the ground etc, really led the way, it would be nice to think that it will pay off in years like this one but who knows. The problem will come, I guess, at narrow fences and those where everyone has to take the same line. Fingers xd for a safe and happy day for all.

I came to work this morning wondering if they'd scrap the x-country and just move straight on to the showjumping

I also wonder how many horses simply won't run......

I remember that Burghley - was it 1999? Not sure.

But yes, the weather is supposed to be pretty awful today, but looks like it might clear up tomorrow. Going will be quite deep though with all the rain over the last week or so.

Yeap it has rained over this way all night and looks set to continue throught today as well. But can't see a huge amount withdrawing as i think the ground should hold up quiet well. Will just have to wait and see!

I'm hoping it will be perfect for horses like Tam that run so well in deep going. Remember the Euro Champs at Blenheim. That was awful too and our riders rode so well in those conditions. Shame toytown isn't there.

Not sure I remember that one.

However I do remember when you could cram as many people as possible into a car and get the car in for £16.

Now those were the days, paying £23 p.p plus £10 for the car tomorrow!!

I have just come back from Burghley - I wish the best of luck to anyone going tomorrow in anything other than a 4x4!!

The tradestands, walkways and car parks are awful, I left really early because I knew my car would struggle yet I still slid across the muddy bits. The course however looks immaculate - although it will be icky after a few horses, the mud looks like runny mud that will cause skiddiness and hesistance, as opposed to thick, glue-like mud. However, if it keeps on raining then it is going to be a bog.

I look forward to watching the XC from the comfort of my sofa!!
