For anyone who remembers the story of Grace, she died last Thursday from colic :(
Her story was amazing, and she raised awareness of animal cruelty all over the world.

"A Douglas County horse that brought worldwide attention to animal neglect died late Thursday after a nearly yearlong recovery.

"She kind of left the way she came in, full of courage and full of spirit and full of grace," said Darla Clark, founder of Strawberry Mountain Mustangs.

Grace, an elderly bay mare, came to the horse rescue in August. When Clark picked Grace up near Winston, she was literally skin and bones and weighed 560 pounds. With a little attention, Grace packed on the pounds and doubled her weight, eventually being put on a diet.

"She's the one that had this amazing recovery, and she did it," Clark said. "We never had any real extreme special diet."

However, Grace gave up the fight late Thursday after being hit with colic, kidney issues and possibly a stroke.

"I think it took all of them to bring her down. She was such a strong old girl," Clark said.

Grace, the worst recorded case of animal neglect in Douglas County, created a social media frenzy. More than 6,300 people followed her progress on Facebook.

"I'm still astounded at the fact that so many people were just mesmerized by this little brown horse," Clark said."

This is when she was rescued. Don't look at these photos if you're easily upset, but it is just amazing what she survived.

I posted about this on the Friday after she died. I'm on their FB page and woke up to it when I logged on, it really, really upset me. I did post it on here but I don't think many people knew about her, which surprised me.

I was not surprised that colic ended her precious life. After all she had been through there had to be internal damage but at least she knew care and kindness before she lost her fight for life. RIP Grace xx
