We have had snow for a few days already and I was just getting some good work going with my boy. I see people on FB posting pics of themselves riding in the snow and wonder how they manage not to get snow balled up in their horses hooves? Is there something you can use to stop it? My boy is barefoot but he still gets big stilts and I don't think it'd be possible to ride him.

Me :) had a gallop in the snow today. I was going to use Vaseline but left it at home so covered inside of his feet with Kevin bacon oil instead. Did the trick :)

Mine are shod with rubber pads which are like an inner tube which follows the inside of the shoe. Rubbish explaination but it stops the snow balling in the foot and makes turnout and riding possible in all but the iciest conditions.

MEEEEE :D

Vaseline with table salt mixed in lather it in before you start getting ready to groom/Tack up etc and off you go :D

My boy is BF at the min so great thing is NO SNOWBALLS :D Mare has shoes on and I vaseline her feet every second day when it lies and is soft, when its crusty is doesnt ball :)

We never use anything, and don't have a problem, but I think it depends what sort of snow you have. Wet, slushy stuff compacts and sticks, our powder doesn't until it begins to thaw.

It doesn't stop the trotters jogging every day either.

Ja, it's awesome :) Don't do anything to his hooves as he's unshod and doesn't have issues with balling snow.
