who still uses bedding in the trailer and what do you use?

My friend's horse has learnt to pee in the trailer. Whilst this is great for her it is not so great for the floor of my poor box. I have rubber mats but obviously that volume of wet manages to seep everywhere!

I was wondering if wood pellets would be any good to soak up some volume or whether to just stick with shavings like in the olden days before mats!

I don't always but if it's a long day in the trailer I use megazorb.

I have shavings on top of the mats as youngster and she didn't like the colour of the mats when I put them in but am phasing them out

I keep a bit of megazorb in the the front of the trailer in a big plastic feed sack for just that sort of " emergency".

Megazorb doesn't look massively dissimilar to wood pellets. I might use the wood pellets I have in the first instance as I am a cheapskate and then get a sack specifically for the trailer as I won't have to pre soak that.


My poor trailer is much abused. Nitty was double barrelling my ramp on Saturday as well as the huge amounts of urine!

I use wood pellets in the lorry too. They absorb all the wee. Both my horses love weeing in the lorry and it's always a pain depending which way the lorry is sloping and which way the wee trickles !

I always put a small amount of my normal bedding down (Use Aubiuse) especially for one of my mares.

Some horses do not like the fact that droppings, if loose, can cause slipping and if you have a horse that does not travel that well they can feel like they are unstable.

It is easy to remove the wet / dirty bedding.

We always put shavings/ wood pellets down in the lorry, as Reg is a bit shy so will only wee when no one can see him (ie, on the lorry... dear boy!).

In our trailer we always had a deep straw bed, as my pony wouldn't travel if her hooves were visible- she panicked and fell over

In our trailer we do have rubber mats but I find a thin sprinkling of shavings facilitates removal of droppings or soaks up wee. Woodchip tneded to get stuck in the rubber matting when it got wet and swelled. Thankfully the NF doesn't like peeing or pooing in the trailer, so we often go out and come back several times before I have to clean it out. Nice pony

Im wood pellets in stable but straw on the matting in trailer. Didnt put it in last week = mess! Did today = easy clean!

I use shavings in mine on top if rubber matting to stop him slipping over wet it gets wet.
