I went to Canada, on my own, not knowing anyone over there, with £200 in my pocket. It didn't bother me then, but I'd be way to scared to do it now - It's age I think!!!!
I went around places and got myself shop/waitressing jobs.
If you want to work in Australia I suggest an organisation like BUNAC. It's always better to get going if you have contacts over there. I'd recommend staying on the ranch or finding a nice house share/family to stay with before you go so you don't feel isolated. They can help you find your feet. Not sure about exactly how to find ranch work if you don't know anyone there, but perhaps do lots of googling. If you have a pal to go with, so much the better.

I'm on my gap year now, staying at home though. I've had 3 jobs, shop work, a bank job and now care work. I'm just enjoying time with my horse, competing and going for long hacks.

I think any sort of work experience, especially abroad, is great to put on your CV. Go with the main gap year companies and I'm sure you'll have an amazing time.

Was supposed to travel but my grandad came to live with us as granny died suddenly and mum needed help looking after him.

I did a post GCSE gap year and worked on a yard in France. I have friends who have gone and worked with horses in Oz for their gap years via. companys and have loved it as it enabled them to work then travel.
I also did camp america last year which was great ... a lot of people who do that then go on to do a ski season in Canada afterwards then in some cases straight back to camp.

There are loads of possibilities out there and everybody that i know who has done Oz, USA, Canada etc. has absolutely loved it !

I worked throughout my gap year to enable myself to keep my horsey whilst I was at uni and still be able to afford treats. Have just come back from a month in new zealand so it hasn't worked out too badly

I went to India for six months were I taught english and travelled, not horsey. The best time I have ever had. I have also done summer camp and again had a fantastic time spending lots of time. I am hoping to go to Oz in the new year but don't think it will be horsey.
