Who trims their own horses' hooves?

Hubby bought me a DVD on how to do it.

It's still wrapped in cellophane. I don't trust myself to do the job properly.

Besides, if I started trimming my own that means I wouldn't have my farrier to flirt with every few weeks.

This is the full kit, I use the double ended rasp. There are no barefoot trimmers round here, but I try to do enough road work to self trim, but not that easy in winter.

Barefoot is easier to manage than shoes, and feet are healthier. I save £365 per year [farrier], spend an extra bit on keeping bed clean, I don't have to worry about losing shoes. Its a new interest, and I note my horse's feet are better than any on the yard.

I did mine quite a few times, only ever on ponies/horse not in work though. I was shown how to do it by a farmer
