Hi Ya'll,
Since I am FINALLY getting my own horse, I am researching all the stuff I need...and am looking at putting my horse on easybed.
I hear the stuff is fantastic and easy to keep clean...Can anyone give me helpful hints and tell me about their experiences with it?
Do you feel it is better than straw or shavings?
Thanks!

Its good, doesn't move like shaving, so poo seems to sit on top, wee drains to lower level where it is absorbed, so wet only needs to be taken out once or twice a week. However I found it quite heavy when wet (but my mare is a dirt bucket), so now use Bedmax (really large shavings). Can't use straw as horse eats it!!

I found it awful and would use shavings anyday over easibed.

It is fine if you are going to deep litter but if you are on full muck out then I wouldn't bother.

One bale goes nowhere near as far as a bale of shavings, it is not as absorbant either and is incredibly heavy to muck out.

It goes brown and looks horrible too!

Our yard are all stabled on Easibed. I skip out the droppings daily, and take the wet out once a week, pulling down fresh bedding from my bankings through the week.

It's normally 2 barrows of wet every week if my horse is out in the field through the day. I try and air the floor once a week as well, and find my bedding lasts longer as it also drys out a bit when it's stacked up.

It is very absorbent, and will also absorb moisture from the air, so you might find you have to take more out after lots of rain

It's also great for any dust allergic horses as it's completely dust-free.

You'll need 8-10 bales for starting the bed off, and it's better to have a deeper bed so that the wet on the bottom isn't disturbed by the horse too much.

My mare is fairly clean so I only need to put down 2 bales a week. My mum's horse is messier and needs 3 bales.

Like Worried1, I also found it awful - really heavy to muck out. I changed over to Bedmax shavings as well - easy to keep clean, I just skip out droppings every day, take out wet once a week. Only use one bale per week

i deep litter this is probably the best way to use it. I started with 10 bales and added a bale every week until a base was established. now i'm down to half a bale a week and my gelding isn't the cleanest of horses. During the summer the horses are out 24/7 so i take it down to the base by banking it and then leave it to air. luckily we have brick stables so there is no need to remove the bed completely and start again!

If I can't use good straw then this is my second choice (it would be my first but straw is cheaper & lets me feed hay off the floor). I have a very deep bed & semi-deep litter it & I don't find it any heavier than shavings.

I used shaving originally my mare has asthma. … even hunter shaving expensive and has dust in. then tried
bedamax, horrid stuff big flakes you cat separate poo from flakes end up throwing so much out. So then I found Cushionbed very like easybed. on my mares son who is dirt little bugger and wet.
Result next morning wow what a difference poo rolls down the banks and what I do is find the wee spot move the clean away and remove the wee then fill in the hole. I took only 1/2 barrow out. then I tried on my mare. now most my liveries are on it or easy bed . tho cushionbed is £ 4 a bag collected or £ £4.25 per bale if delivered much cheaper than easybed and shavings. I dont take much out so dont need to put much in extra i used 2 extra a week with shavings and only 1 now I will never go back to shavings for mine now and her breathing is better
