I was thinking to myself about all the 'how much should I ask for my horse' posts we have on here, the current state of the market, and the varying answers to posts. That good old adage 'a horse is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it' is very true, but what does determine the price we set as sellers, and how close could you get to accurately guessing/pricing a horse from its advert?

So I thought we could have a little fun, I have found three adverts online, I have posted the pictures and descriptions from the adverts but not the price the horse is for sale at... can you price these horses? As I said, this is a game so google search on these horses is not allowed:

16.3, 4yr, black gelding
Dutch Warmblood (KWPN) Stunning black gelding. Impeccably well bred (Donnerhall x Rubinstein) Also has very good jumping lines on his dam side (Voltaire x Indoctro x Pik Bube) 3 fantastic, expressive paces. Ideal horse for age classes. Just imported straight from breeders yard in Holland so unbroken but started ground work and showng a fantastic attitide to his work. Very careful when loose jumping showing huge scope. Very good, quiet temprament. Lovely quality horse with a great future ahead of him in either Dressage or Eventing.

14.2, 9 yrs
Milo is a quality pony with stunning looks, good conformation, 3 super paces, a natural technique over any fence, with a powerful and scopey jump. He also has an amazing presence about him. He has competed in numerous unaffiliated and affiliated jumping classes, he is BSJA registered. Has won many WHP Championships all with a young girl. However his real talent is eventing He is currently being produced and competed by Georgie Spence, down in Wiltshire. In his first season eventing, he has competed in 2 BE90 classes, both double clear, with dressage scores of 27.5 and 27, finishing 7th and 1st. Finished 1st at BE100 at Aston-le-walls with a dressage score of 32.5, jumping double clear Finished 2nd at BE100 at Tweseldown with a dressage score of 35, jumping double clear. Finished 6th at BE100 at Stoner School with a dressage score of 32, jumping double clear. Always producing a consistent dressage score, and jumping double clears. In very few outings he has gained 39 foundation points. This is a rare opportunity to purchase a quality pony that possesses exceptional talent and has real Team potential. He is a true competition pony who needs a competent rider to bring out the best in him. He has never been lame, sick or sorry, is easy to do in all ways. 100% shoe, box, clip etc Genuine reason for sale as daughter now 16 and out of ponies. Can be seen and tried at Georgie Spence's yard in Wiltshire.

Pink papered, branded, Oldenberg, Dark Bay, Mare, 7 years, 16 hands

Fantastically well bred and put together pretty mare with superb movement. Light, responsive, forward going, snaffle ride but can be spooky, needs a confident experienced rider. Lateral movements established. She is good to shoe, load, hack, clip, worm and with vet and farrier etc..

Only selling due to starting up my own company and getting married hence why she has been turned away for the last few month?s as I do not have time to do this lovely mare justice.

Due to her breeding she would make an exceptional broodmare or a fantastic dressage prospect in capable hands.

I have owned her from a foal and this is a devastating sale for me. Five star home is sought for Milli , open to any vet, all jabs up to date.

Stunning 16hh 7 year old liver chestnut gelding by Zaha. Ideal as a happy hacker/ low level riding club activities. Has competed prelim and novice level unaffliated dressage scoring 60% each time, been to local shows competing in ROR classes being placed in the top 3 and cross country schooling. Good in traffic, very laid back boy never hot headed or silly, can leave him a few days not one that has to be exercised every day. weatherbys passport, vaccinated and teeth upto date. good to shoe, box, catch, clip etc. Only for sale due to lack of time or would consider full loan to stay at present yard or may consider if local to pirbright but yard will be vetted first.

So, what would you think these would fetch on the market, what would you value them at?

P.S. I know none of these horses this is not advertising, its just a bit of fun :D

And remember...

NO GOOGLE!

i'd say:

A- 25k
B- 5K but overpriced
C- 15-18K
D- 4K Possibly overpriced as homebred
E- 2K-2.5K

Hard to tell, too many overpriced horses out there but thats my guess? x

I know how much C was advertised for, as I was asked to try him out for a friend's daughter (didn't in the end though). Wouldn't have a clue about the others, the last horse I tried out for someone was all of £250 last autumn, though was recently sold on for £4.5k which is nuts!

I'm not sure even if I had the money to buy any of those (which I don't :( ) I would, I probably couldn't ride one side of them anyway

Absoultely no idea, I've only ever bought happy hackers and never paid more than £1500 so sorry totally useless reply :D

Im similar, in that the most I have ever paid is 1K, I can generally have a stab at value up to about 10k but after that its just a mystery to me, that is why I started thinking about this in the first place

I think that sometimes you horrendously overprice and people think it must be good

I wouldn't buy any of them, would scare me far too much to walk into any of their yards probably!

I know how much horse C is advertised for too. I actually thought he was reasonably priced in that world.

No idea on the others, horses A & D are related to my grey pony as her grandsire is Rubinstein but I suspect they are a lot more than I paid for her. I wouldn't swap though :)

A - I'd say from 25 - 30k
B - 5k
C - 20k
D - 5k
E - 3k (I actually think the horse will be advertised at a lower price, perhaps 2k, because he's a TB.)

I have no idea on prices tbh, I couldn't afford any of those horses (if my prices are accurate :D )

They are all stunning though! :)

I dont have a clue on price but I really like A, C and E :D. Not that I could ride one side of A, E looks like my kinda guy (do you think they would notice if I bleached YP and swapped him?). E looks like a lovely chap that could turn out to be some ones best friend and super little competition horse.

Gosh was really c**p at first lot so am not even going to try at second ones!

Wouldn't think more than a few hundred for the first two (F & G). The last one must be mega money as the horse is being very good staying on the right bend despite the rider twisted left to look at herself in the mirror :p
