Madam is five now, she is in a loose ring french link and has been since she was backed. She will settle once worked in but is somewhat resentful of any steering/half halting etc! Part of it is just her being young and part is her as a 'person' but I wonder if changing to something else might help. She goes all hollow if you take up what she considers too much of a pull and will open her gob.

I suspect the blunter the instrument the better she will be and I wonder if she might actually prefer a straight mouth. I have such a thing in rubber which I will try as it is cheap but I am also wondering about other more scientific bitting solutions. Any suggestions?

I havent tried anything yet but noseband could also be on the list. At the moment she does everything in a cavesson as that is my ideal but lots of people suggest their horses like a drop, I think because it stops the bit moving so much in the mouth?
