The other post about olympic dream teams has really made me remember who it was that inspired me, who I watched sat cross legged on the floor in front of the TV with eyes as wide as saucers. Not that I have ever forgotten those people and horses, more that I has made me relive that feeling of fascination and awe, and determination to have that partnership and feel what they were feeling.

(I can only put links since I can't acess Photobucket on this computer but...

here they are, the main 2 I watched at every opportunity and who ultimately kept first my dad and now me poor!

The reason I dreamt of owning a grey horse.

and a little bit of inspiration that I got from the story of a small horse with big aspirations...

If you don't know strollers story the article below is worth a read, it makes your heart shine just a little bit :)

those are mine, what or who inspired you?

The horses themselves, they inspired me to ride. Wanting to have them in my life and be part of the lives of such fascinating and beautiful animals.

Latterly, watching someone like Carl Hester I think can be very inspirtional but also spending time with an unknown Portuguese rider who is simply amazing on a horse. He has motivated me to try and be the best that I possibly can.

My cousin Lori. :)

I was always obsessed with My Little Ponies as a kid but then when my cousin (who was 10 years older than me) gave me her old leather riding boots when I was 10, well, that did it for me!!!

Sadly Lori, who has an excellent dressage rider herself, died from leukemia about 10 years ago but every day I think about her when I am down my stables and what she got me into by giving me her old boots! :D

Oh SSG - that's both very beautiful and very sad at the same time. But how blessed you were to have such a wonderful cousin in your life.

I'm so shallow...the reason I started riding..3 year old brat, saw my 7 year old sister getting a pony riding lesson, had a screaming tantrum, mum couldn't be arsed to fight so plopped me on a sheltland and the rest is as they say history!! Sister had lessons til she was around 11 but for me the life long love started that day and still hasn't left me.

well, I was a townie :D well I lived in a town in rural wales where there were sheep, not horses :D I used to come down to devon and occasionally ride my friends welsh d mare prinny, I used to look forward to that all year round :D but during the time that I was at home I watched the tv, for me Mary was to be worshipped and she NEVER stopped smiling, and John and Milton, well they were the stuff that dreams were made of, but I will never forget my dad regaling tales of stroller and how tiny he was and how much he kicked @r$e :D:D It made me proud to ride a pony.

When I moved to torquay my dreams came true, I had about 18months of lessons on some fantastic, tallented and challenging horses and then got my own, but for a short break at uni, I have never been without horses since. :D

well mum was horsey, when i was 4 or 5 i was bought a pony. wasn't really interested i just wanted to look at the pretty pony. so he was sold, and then for the next 7 years i begged for a pony! during that time i obsessed over horse books, horse literature etc etc
Finally got one at 11 but ever since my very first pony was sold I've been hooked on them :D

My Grandma, who rode as a child and was actually named after a horse! Sure she was glad every day that the horse in question wasn't called 'Dobbin'.......

Or like our shetland pony next door: Bubbles :D

I wasn't interested at all as a 5 year old but my sister had this mad idea and fed a few horses on a field for 2 days and then decided it's time to get on  No collar, saddle or whatsoever. Fell of the horse of course and into barb wire. Had to get stitched up at hospital and the doc said to my Mum that she needs to get back onto horses straight away or she'll be afraid of them forever. My sister didn't want to go alone to riding school so my Mum told me I had to go too.

First lesson and I was hooked!!:D Never left me. My sister is still afraid of canter or gallop and just rides when she is sure it's a "rocking chair"-type of horse under 15 HH :D

When I was aboout 3 I used to toddle across the lane on my own to visit the gypsy horse dealer opposite our house (no traffic in those days, I was quite safe). She would put me up on whatever horse she had tied up in the yard for a sit and a play. I was completely hooked. My poor parents never forgave her..

Years and years later, knowing I was adopted, I found and researched my birth family. They were bookies and farmers. It must be in the blood.

A very good family friend, she had a 17hh Piebald that she was international carriage driving champion with and i remember getting to sit on him when i was really young.
She always had horses and ponies and when we went to visit we would get a shot or go out on the carriage with her.
She gave me the pony i have now and we still go to events with her.
