This is very cheeky of me, I know, but I'd love to have your input - never know what I might miss out on otherwise eh. Thanks guys.

I'd prefer a stallion standing in the UK - I just prefer to support British Breeders - but would consider a continental stallion. She's related to over 30 international SJers (according to Sportsnight's stud card anywhy
tongue.gif
) She's 16.1hh 10yo bay, by Sportsnight (Olympic Ahorn, Nimmerdor, Erdball), out of a Grade A Atlantus mare. She's graded with SHB(GB). Currently in foal to Goshka Ringo (due April). Only foal is a yearling, by the TB Kings Composer - this foal in one outing as a foal gained a First Premium with the BEF and in 2 outings this year won a County Sports Horse Class and also gained another BEF First Premium, plus being Champion Eventing Yearling, with the highest scores of any yearling of the day. She herself has very low mileage - having IMO been wasted and to a certain extent abused before I bought her. She did however come second in the Sports Horse Broodmare class at Devon County Show.

Her strengths - She jumps (WOW!!), lovely head and neck, uses her hocks well (could be improved on), modern type of WB.

Her weaknesses - A little upright in the shoulder, length of hip could be improved, doesn't have great elevation in her movement. Has a one person temperament.

P.S. she was 4 1/2 wks premature herself, her parents were 17.1hh and 17hh respectively and her yearling (16 months old) is a good 15.2hh

LOL - if I was to use an RID then it would either be Kensons Aragorn or Classic Vision..... I'm not convinced she's the right mare for that though.....

You know what SSM - that is one STUNNING horse!! However, I'm not sure if I will breed this next one for me or not, therefore I'm not sure how saleable a WBxCB would be? If I was to breed for me, I think he'd be in the top 5 - his temperament alone seems amazing!!

I personally wouldn't go RID with her, although to be fair you could end up with a decent hunter type from that combo. I would personally not go warmblood dressage lines but would stick to warmblood SJ lines or quality moving TB for event lines.
What about Lauriston?

I do like Gribaldi and I remember wittering on about him a while ago, but having done some research, I don't think it would be a wise cross - too much temperament and I'm not fond of his front legs either tbth.

Hmmmm wonder why you like Ringo so much

Have you had baby no. 2 yet?

Yeah if I was breeding a sharp big hunter, then I think RID would be a good cross - but I'm inclined to agree with you.

I do like Lauriston - what's his temperament like? That's also a HUGE hike in stud fee - £1,000!!

If the Kings Composer worked why not stick to TB or close. Go back or our own Weston Justice would produce competition stock. SallyF also has some lovely TBs oozing quality. As you say there is plenty of quality in GB now and remember the Germans are not above exporting our TB blood look at Lauries Crusador and I have noticed a lot of their bloodlines with Nashwan in!

Hmmm I saw The Humerist a couple of weeks ago. I like him, but I don't think he has the right qualities for B, my friend agreed.

Temperament, movement, power, substance with elegance - multi tasking capabilities really

B will provide the jump (belive me - you should see Hector jump!!), but she needs more lift/cadence/elevation/expression in her paces

If I go and live in the US, then B will def. go to Darkie! I love him - I used to work with him and I adored him. Too difficult to sell in this country though - if I bred her to a Catherston horse it would be Libs, but I'm not impressed by him enough - does that make any sense?

It depends why you are breeding, if it's to sell then one of the eventing sires, if not and it's to breed a horse for you, then go for temperament, good bone etc.
I'm a fan of Kensons Aragorn myself, he would suit her down to the ground and produce your possible horse of a lifetime.
I have to say some of the stallions we have seen eventing have disappointed in the flesh. Several have the most dreadful conformation and the last one I saw had a plain head and no "Look at me" factor when ridden.
Another was just plain ugly!
If Chocolate had more bone, and substance the result would be super, but he is quite a medium built chap so would produce a lovely event type, but not what you or I would want to carry us.
If you were going for dressage I love Medoc. He just oozes prescence and I love the hanno temperament.

Yes - does make sense - I saw D. as a 2 yr old at the orig. C.Stud when we went to look at D. Courage - loved him to bits and was so pleased to see what he went on to achieve

I just thought that he was that bit more 'TBish" for your girl so would add lightness and hence the movement

Years later I saw Springsteen and liked him - saw Rock King at the same time and didn't like him

Like your girl though - she's got a 'look at me' appeal which always helps to get the judges eye

tbh if she was mine I'd put her to a good near TB like one of the Brendon horses - but then I happen to like TB x horses so I'm biased

I don't particularly love Lauriston's stock. Have seen several of his foals and they were all very plain and didn't have the nicest heads IMO. Could definately moce though but were all going to be late developers.
The stallion I am in love with at the moment is a young 3 yr old stallion called El Thuder. Been graded with the AES and blew the judges away. He is by Thunder Van de Zuuthoeve (see http://www.zuuthoeve.com/html/thunder_e.html ) who is in turn by Argentinus and out a Nimmerdor/Ladykiller mare. El Thuder's dam in turn has got the stallions Ladykiller, Langraf and Gotthard in her pedigree. I have got two mares in foal to him and know that he has been incredibly popular this year, even though is only his first season at stud. Amazing temperament and just in general is stunning horse - will be keeping my eye on him for the future!!

I would definately go for a TB or near. You have plenty of jump with those bloodlines. My Atlantus mare lacks a bit of shoulder and hock action. We used Weston Justice who improved on both of these. Also by going with a TB the offspring could event or SJ.

Sue!!! B is my horse of a lifetime - I'm shocked I am!! lol! I know what you mean about KA though, I felt very honoured to meet and sit on Ari last year. Though is now the time and place to tell you that I've lost 5 stone since last you saw me?
grin.gif
Still away to go mind -like about another 10 stone, but I'll get there.

I do think Choclate would suit her too - and I do like his stock.

The ultimate decision will be made when I see what she produces to Ringo and also how much I weigh by then .........

Thanks SS! Glad it made sense.

I LOVE C. Springsteen, he is one of the softest horses I've ever had the pleasure to work with. He also moves amazingly well - I know that when Lizzie was having bad back problems, she couldn't ride him due to his exhuberant movement! I just don't like the way he flicks that one front leg.......

Someone else mentioned the Brendon horses to me - I like pretty much everything they have tbh. Could pop in to see them on my next road trip home to Cornwall! Thanks for that!

I would go for a TB. Thought Maximum clearance looks nice- his confo doesnt look good in the first pic but if you look at the third pic down he looks like he has substance and his backend looks much better with better hocks.
It also says on that page that he is crossing very well with WB mares?
http://www.irelandhorse.com/Off%20main%20pages/Maximum.htm

Also like Lion D'or who is also on that website,he really is stunning, but not a proven performance horse although has been used with grade A mares...
