Watching Burghley had me musing, if I was lucky enough to own a horse with potential to go all the way in eventing who would I choose to ride it?

I couldn't give you a name but I think I'd like to give an opportunity to a young talented rider who wouldn't otherwise have a chance.

My 13yr old self would love to have Pippa Funnell riding my horse (and I think I'd get on very well with her, I love her friendship with Tina and Piggy and how supportive she is of other riders) but she has more than enough horses. Maybe I'd ask her to help me find the right young rider and to mentor them with my horse. That would be the dream scenario.

It would depend on the type of horse, but my choice wouldn’t just be dependent on how well I thought they rode under pressure at the big events but also their overall management of the horse and the feeling I got from their whole team.
I have heard some horror stories about riders who some seem to worship!

Sadly all too true.

Ros Canter's horses all live out, she seems to ride nicely and her horses are in quite simple tack, so I'd go for her. She comes across as being nice so hopefully she treats them well

She’d get my vote for a horse going to or at top level. She gave that mare a lovely ride round Burghley I thought. And she was thoroughly decent and very unassuming at my big birthday riding camp the other year! Seems to have a nice set up for horses.

Otherwise it would be nice to help out an aspiring young rider who maybe doesn’t have the advantages to get there on their own.
